McMeen Elementary

Community Attention Needed

03/07/24, 11:21 AM

Dear McMeen families,

We are writing to address a pressing issue that has been brought to our attention by our neighbors living near the school. We have received complaints regarding the increasing challenges related to parking and traffic near our school, particularly around the Tennessee/Ivy intersection.

Our neighbors have been experiencing difficulties associated with living near our school for some time now. However, the situation has escalated to a point where it is causing significant inconvenience and posing safety risks for the residents as well as students. They have highlighted several key concerns which I would like to address with you all.

First and foremost, there are frequent occurrences of vehicles being parked in a manner that blocks driveways. Instances have been reported where residents have been delayed in accessing their driveways, or even prevented from doing so altogether due to vehicles blocking their entrance. On a couple occasions, neighbors have had parents park directly in their driveways when dropping off or picking up students.

Additionally, there have been reports of vehicles parking in designated no parking zones, obstructing the flow of traffic and making it difficult for residents to navigate the streets safely. Furthermore, some individuals have been observed stopping in the middle of the street to drop off students, or parking in crosswalks, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians and other road users.

Despite attempts to address these concerns directly to those in violation, the situation persists, and our neighbors feels frustrated by the lack of action taken thus far.

As a community, it is imperative that we take collective responsibility for addressing these issues and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents living in the McMeen community. Therefore, we urge each and every one of you to adhere to parking regulations and exercise consideration for our neighbors when dropping off or picking up your children.

We are committed to working collaboratively with our families, local authorities, city officials, law enforcement and residents to find effective solutions to these challenges. If you would like to volunteer to help ensure safety during arrival and dismissal, please let us know. We must hold each other accountable as members of the collective McMeen community.

Your cooperation and support in this matter are greatly appreciated. Let us work together to create a safer and more considerate environment for everyone.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
