Dear McMeen Families, Over the past few weeks, and especially in recent days, our community has faced events that have shaken many of our families to their core. Immigration raids in the Denver area have left children, parents, neighbors and McMeen staff members living in fear—fear of being separated from loved ones, fear of losing their sense of safety, and fear of the unknown. As educators, our hearts break when we see the direct impact this is having on our students, families, and staff because of the pain and fear that so many are experiencing. We’ve had students absent because their families are afraid to leave their homes. We’ve seen children asking when their friends will come back to school. We’ve spoken with staff members who feel targeted simply because of their identity. These are moments that test our values, our community, and our humanity. Regardless of where we stand on these issues, I believe we can all agree that no child should feel unsafe in their home or their classroom. No family should feel terrorized in their own community. These moments call on all of us to put humanity first and to remember the dignity and worth of every person in our McMeen community. As a school, we remain committed to providing a safe, welcoming space for every child who walks through our doors and to supporting the dignity and well-being of every family we serve. We are committed to protecting and standing alongside our families during these challenging times. If your family needs resources, guidance, or simply someone to listen, please reach out. You are not alone, and we are here for you. Now more than ever, let’s come together as a community. Let’s show our students what it means to stand up for kindness, compassion, and justice. Our strength lies in our unity, and together, we can provide hope and safety for those who need it most. With care and solidarity, |
