Holiday Gifts for McMeen Families
Would you like to spread holiday cheer with our school community? McMeen Elementary has over 700 students speaking over 25 languages, and many of these children could benefit from gifts and food. We are looking for partners to sponsor a family (or more). If you or someone you know is interested, see here to sign up and here to donate.
If your family could benefit from a sponsorship, please email our Community Liaison Jean Boylan at jean_boylan@dpsk12.net.
McMeen Quarter 1 Report
We are about a quarter of the way through the school year so we wanted to give an update on our students' progress! The attached report details how our students are performing and their attendance rates.
We want to draw attention to McMeen literacy rates. Currently, 34% of students learning in English are performing at or above grade level and 29% of students learning in Spanish are at or above grade level. We hope to increase these numbers in the next quarter, and you can help! Read with your child at home; even a few minutes a day can help increase their reading comprehension.
We also want to highlight our attendance numbers. Currently, our attendance rate is 89%. That is good, but it can be better! Please do your best to get your child to school on time every day. Even if you are running late, bring your child to school - every minute counts!
Be sure to check out the attached report for more details.
Pathways to the Seal of Biliteracy Award
The Pathways to the Seal of Biliteracy Award is given during elementary school years to encourage students to retain and develop their home language, or to study a second language; and to encourage interest in earning the DPS Seal of Biliteracy in high school.
If your student is interested in pursuing the award, please fill out and return an interest form to the McMeen main office. If you have any questions, please reach out to Assistant Principal Lauren Bartsch at lauren_bartsch@dpsk12.net.
