Message from the Principal- Lockdown Drill
01/31/25, 10:09 AM
Dear McMeen Families, On Wednesday, February 5th, we will be practicing a lockdown and secure perimeter drill as part of our commitment to keeping students and staff safe. These drills help us prepare for situations where we may need to take extra precautions inside our school building. During this practice, students and staff will follow safety procedures in a calm and structured way. Just like we practice fire drills to know what to do in an emergency, this drill helps us learn how to stay safe if there is ever a situation outside or inside the school that requires us to take additional safety measures. We understand that safety drills can sometimes cause worry, but our goal is to help students feel prepared, not scared. There will be no loud noises, simulations, or surprises—just clear instructions and practice. Our school will be supported by the DPS Department of Climate and Safety, School District Administration, and local law enforcement, who will assist us in making sure everything runs smoothly. To help families better understand the drill and how we prepare for safety at McMeen, we encourage you to watch this informational video: English / Spanish. This can be a helpful way to talk with your child about the importance of practicing safety routines at school. After the drill, our school team will review how it went and look for ways to continue improving our safety procedures. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your support in keeping McMeen a safe.
