CSC Nominations and Elections
Every school within the Denver Public School District has a Collaborative School Committee (CSC) in place. The CSC brings together staff, parents, students, and community members to create and implement a plan to promote high achievement within the school.

Being a part of the CSC is an exciting opportunity to be involved in our school community, not to mention to participate in the education of all our students. Our school is working towards some great goals and we believe that by working together, we can achieve them!

This year we have 5 openings on our CSC. We meet every month and will have a few extra meetings during the month of February. We ask that CSC members participate in the meetings and commit to being a member for two years, or one year where it applies.

If you are interested in your name being placed on the ballot for one of the (parent, teacher, …representative) openings, please fill out the nomination form by September 6th

If you would like more information concerning the CSC before making a decision, please feel free to contact Principal Hinman at andria_hinman@dpsk12.net or speak with a current CSC representative. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

NOMINATION FORM

Safety - Parents and Student Safety
IMPORTANT: Parents will not be able to walk their children to their classrooms for safety reasons. The only exception will be ECE parents, who must check-in with staff in the office to get a pass.

Safety Drills
We conduct safety drills at McMeen to prepare our students in case of emergency. These include fire drills, lockdown drills, shelter-in-place drills, and secured perimeter drills. To learn more about each of these drills and why we conduct them, please see here. We encourage you to speak to your child about the importance of these drills. We will be having our first lockdown drill on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Electric/ Motorized Bikes and Scooters
We ask that you dismount all electric or motorized scooters and bikes at the parking lot before coming onto the blacktop/playground area. Due to the amount of people moving about, this has become a safety issue. Thank you for your understanding.

Class Dojo
We've heard that Class Dojo has been asking parents to pay for a subscription. You will never need to pay for Class Dojo; the McMeen team uses the free version. You will not miss any McMeen information by using the free version.

BESS Parent Survey
Please fill out this BESS survey about your child's social emotional and mental health strengths and needs by Oct. 18. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete! You will need to input your student's ID number, which can be found in the parent portal. If you have questions, please email Julie Magnuson at julie_magnuson@dpsk12.org

American Furniture Warehouse Rally for McMeen
Looking to buy some furniture? Be sure to shop at American Furniture Warehouse! If you mention McMeen at checkout, 2% of your purchase will go towards our school. The donation applies even when you shop online - just input our school code: MCMN71. Learn more here

Capturing Kids' Hearts
We're working with Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) to empower McMeen students to grow into leaders. As a part of this work, every month we focus on a specific value here at McMeen. For the rest of August and all of September, we will be focusing on empathy.

As we promote empathy here at school, we encourage you to promote empathy at home with your student. You can help your child practice empathy by:
  • Involving them in helping others. Engage your child in activities that involve helping others, such as volunteering or helping a neighbor. These activities provide practical experiences of empathy in action.
  • Praising empathetic behavior. When your child show empathy, acknowledge and praise their actions. This reinforcement helps them understand the value of empathy and encourages them to continue acting kindly.
  • Discussing feelings openly. Encourage your child to talk about their own feelings and listen to theirs with empathy. Ask questions like, “How do you think that made them feel?” or “How would you feel if you were in their situation?”
  • Reading books with your child or telling stories that illustrate empathy.
  • Modeling empathy in action. Children learn a lot from observing adults. Show empathy in your own interactions, and talk about how you're considering others' feelings in your decisions or actions.

Arrival/Dismissal Logistics
The McMeen parking lot will only be open for kiss-and-go in the mornings; parking in the lot is not allowed. If you'd like to walk your student up to the building, you can park in the neighborhood. Please do not block our neighbors' driveways or crosswalks. Keep in mind that parking will not be available on Tennessee between Holly and the parking lot because that is where our school busses park.

To pick your student up at dismissal, please park in the neighborhood and meet your student on the playground. Please do not enter the closed parking lot through the exit. Parking in the McMeen parking lot is prohibited.

School Hours
As a reminder, our school hours are 7:40am-2:40pm. Doors open at 7:30am for students to walk to class. Students are considered tardy at 7:40am. Please plan accordingly so your child does not miss important academic time.
