😷 The Importance of the Measles Vaccine Measles is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening virus that spreads through breathing, coughing and sneezing. Measles cases are on the rise in the U.S. While there are no reported measles cases in Colorado right now, rates are expected to increase during spring break. Protect yourself and your family from measles by making sure you are up to date on your measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine! See here for more info on where to get vaccinated.
🤝 Supporting Our Community
In recent weeks, we experienced actions to remove immigrants from our community creating a lot of stress and uncertainty in our school community. Many McMeen families have stepped up and asked for guidance about how to help. Here are ways you can support our community:
🗣 Support in Talking to Your Student About ICE
This resource provides valuable guidance on how to talk to your child (aged 3-6) about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Take a moment to read through it for support in navigating these difficult conversations with care and understanding.
🌎 Multicultural Corner: Fast Fact Did you know? Many words have the same meaning (and are spelled the same) in both English and Spanish! These are called cognates. Some examples are:
Our next Multicultural Corner fact will be about connections between English and Arabic. Stay tuned! 💛 Courage in Action In March, we're celebrating courage! Sometimes all it takes to be courageous is to believe in yourself. Take a moment with your child and remind them that they can do hard things. You can invite them to repeat this phrase whenever they need: "I can do hard things." 🍎 Sign Up To Help With Teacher Tuesdays
Our parent volunteer organization (PTO) is sponsoring "Teacher Tuesdays" to let staff know we see and appreciate how they go above and beyond for our students. Each week PTO provides snacks or other surprises in the teacher workroom. You can sign up to help pick-up food here or donate to the staff appreciation fund here.
🪅 Help Needed For Dia Del Niño
Our parent volunteer organization (PTO) is recruiting volunteers to help plan McMeen’s 3rd annual Día del Niño event on April 26. Details and signup here.
