Dear McMeen families,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to address an important issue that affects the well-being and safety of our students: bullying.

Bullying is defined as repetitive aggressive behavior over time, where there is a clear power dynamic between the aggressor and the victim. It can take various forms, including physical, verbal, and emotional aggression. Bullying behaviors are harmful and can have long-lasting effects on the mental and emotional health of those involved.

As parents, it's crucial for us to be mindful of bullying behaviors and the example we set for our children in addressing them. Our actions and responses to conflicts and disagreements greatly influence how our children perceive and respond to bullying situations.

It's important to teach our children empathy, respect, and kindness towards others. We can do this by modeling positive communication and conflict resolution skills in our interactions with others. Encouraging our children to stand up for themselves and others in a respectful and assertive manner can empower them to address bullying situations effectively.

Furthermore, I want to emphasize that responding to physical aggression with more aggression, such as hitting back, is not an appropriate or effective way to solve conflicts. It only escalates the situation and creates more problems. Instead, we encourage students to seek help from a trusted adult, such as a teacher or school staff member, if they feel threatened or unsafe.

We must work together to create a school environment where all students feel safe, respected, and valued. Providing our children with the appropriate tools and phrases to respond to bullying, along with reinforcing positive behaviors at home, can help foster a culture of kindness and respect within our school community.

If you have any concerns or questions about bullying prevention or intervention, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or our school's counseling team. Together, let's continue to promote a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

In partnership,
