April is Autism Awareness Month

Hello McMeen Families and Happy April!

April is Autism Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines Autism as "Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges." (March 31, 2023)

According to the CDC (March 2, 2022), 1 in 36 children have been identified with ASD.

There is a reason this disorder name contains the word "spectrum." People who live with ASD will experience their own, individual, distinct strengths and challenges. This spectrum of symptoms can range from highly-skilled to severely challenged in the ability to access learning, thinking and problem solving. There is no "one size fits all" perspective when it comes to ASD.
