Keeping McMeen Students Safe

03/22/23, 12:55 PM

We wanted to take a moment to send out a message to families regarding the events at East High School today and the anxiety we know many families are feeling. If you have not yet heard what has happened, you can read the 9news story here. DPS Safety and Security has assured us there is not currently any risk to McMeen and we are continuing to monitor the situation closely. Due to the fear and unknown around this event as well as the ongoing nature of it, we have increased staff presence at recess and around the building to monitor any possible safety concern. We believe this strategy is the best for students so we do not alarm them. We have not, and will not, present this situation to students. We do know students will come in tomorrow with varying knowledge of what has happened, and we strongly encourage all families to talk to their children about the events this evening in order to prepare them for hearing about it from peers tomorrow.

As I mentioned, we are continuing to monitor the situation and will keep you updated should anything develop that impacts McMeen. Please feel free to reach out directly to me, Mrs. Bartsch at 720-424-5542, if you have any questions.
