Monday, December 4

4:00pm - Collaborative School Committee Meeting via Zoom. - This month's Collaborative School Committee (CSC) agenda includes discussing the family engagement survey results, McMeen's School Determined Funds, and a school update will be provided.

Tuesday, December 5

4:00-5:00pm - McMeen Eats at Chipotle (820 S Monaco St. Pkwy) - Dine or order online from Chipotle on December 5, and they will will donate 33% of sales right back to the McMeen PTO! Show this flyer or use promo code: F8LF7PA

Collaborative School Committee Meeting

Our next Collaborative School Committee (CSC) Meeting will be Monday, December 4 from 4:00-5:00pm via Zoom (link to follow). The agenda includes discussing the family engagement survey results, McMeen's School Determined Funds, and a school update will be provided. We are asking that all families take this survey to help us start thinking of ideas in preparation for the meeting.

🏀Basketball Registration - Now Open

McMeen is launching two athletic teams for 4th and 5th graders through ELCSports — basketball this winter and flag football this spring. Registration for Winter Basketball is Monday November 27 - Friday Dec 10. Practices will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:50 - 4:20 pm. Games will be played on Wednesdays. The season runs 1/8 - 2/23. We are also seeking coaches and referees. Contact Coach James at james_howard@dpsk12.net with questions. 🧸 Toy & Clothing Drive for McMeen Families in Need
Please consider supporting McMeen families in need. There are two ways:

Donate new or gently-used clothes and other essential items: Sign up to Donate.
Purchase holiday gifts for McMeen students: Because of the high volume of need this year, McMeen has partnered with local toy store, Beyond the Blackboard, to provide holiday gifts for McMeen students in need. Beyond the Blackboard will wrap each gift purchased and include additional stocking stuffer items. They have also donated thousands of new books to our students. Cash donations will be used to purchase Target and King Soopers gift cards for families. Use discount code “McMeen” and put McMeen in the ship-to section (1000 S Holly Street, Denver, CO 80246). Deadline for purchase is 12/12.

Over the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in racial and cultural discrimination across our school. This, in addition to a lot of the concerns around kids' behavior towards other kids, has led us to implement a variety of things, one of which is adding the Kindness Corner to our family newsletters. We are all working together to support our students in a variety of ways and we want to include families in that.

This week's focus: The more you know, the more you grow! Let’s help our community learn and grow. Holidays are fast approaching and we all have our own personal/family/cultural traditions that we treasure. Talk with your students about what their favorite family tradition is and share it here.

Then encourage your student to ask 3 classmates and friends about their favorite tradition. (Any type of tradition)

Example: Ms Beth celebrates New Years by learning one new New Years traditions from around the world and incorporates them into her night and new year's day activities. Please share your New Year's traditions with me!

The McMeen Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports the education and well-being of children at McMeen and fosters relationships among McMeen's students, families, staff, and local community. This mission is accomplished through volunteer support, fundraising efforts, community-building events, and teacher and programmatic support.
