Parenting Partners Reunion

Join us at the Parenting Partners Reunion event on Wednesday, September 27th from 4-7pm to learn about 3 different programs we can launch at McMeen: Parenting Partners, Calm and Kind, and Family Mealtimes. This event is designed for parents to join in and build excitement for the opportunity to join in on these programs alongside school staff! There will be FOOD, PRIZES, and opportunities to connect with other schools who have used these programs. If you have YET to RSVP, please do so below. Kendra Scott Fundraiser- Shopping code: GIVEBACK-EXFJH
Hey McMeen Family!
This week the Kendra Scott Jewelry Company in Cherry Creek location is hosting a fundraiser for SEL supports for McMeen Elementary School. Kendra Scott will be hosting a 2 hour in store event (with champagne and wine) on September 28th from 5-7pm and a 48 hour online event. 20% of the proceeds will go to McMeen Elementary School! Please help promote this event by sharing the information on your social media and with your friends. See the attached flier.
 
McMeen Eats @ Pie Society
When: Wednesday, September 27 @ 4:30 - 8:00 PM
Where: Pie Society, 4615 E Mississippi Ave, Glendale, CO 80246
Details: Support the McMeen PTO by eating pizza! On September 27, Pie Society will be donating 25% of proceeds to the McMeen PTO. Please be sure to mention "McMeen25" when you place an order. If ordering online, put "McMeen25" in the special instructions line of your order.
 
Math Spirit Day
Our student mathematicians had a great time playing with numbers, shapes, and lines during our Math Spirit Day last Friday, September 15th. Remember, play is learning! Keep playing with your child using the new math game we sent home. If you are having trouble learning the game, please stop in or call Miss Jackie 720-424-5520.
 
McMeen Community Clean-up
Hey McMeen Families!
We are going to start a playground clean up program. Each grade will take one recess day a month to help keep our playground clean moving forward for the remainder of the year. The goal is to emphasize community and take collective responsibility for our space. They will clean up the playground one Monday a month moving forward. Please help us out by taking a moment to talk with your students about the clean up.

Our first clean up will be: 2nd/5th Grade on 9/26 (Tuesday, bc students are not here on Monday.

CU Student and Community Counseling Center
We wanted to share a counseling resource for families for the CU Student and Community Counseling Center. Please check out the attached flier for more information.
 
DSST Cedar Middle & High School Open House
DSST Cedar have upcoming in-person Open Houses starting this October 18th 2023 at 5:30 pm (Sign up here!) which include a formal introduction and tour of the school, followed by informal connection time with staff. We encourage families to attend who have 4th and 5th Grade students to start thinking about middle school options.
 
REMINDER Magnet Eligibility Testing Window
The Magnet Eligibility(ME) testing window is open in DPS. Please follow this link to sign your student up by 10/13.  This is a cognitive test used to identify students as Highly Gifted or ME.  The data can be used to help identify students for the GT program at McMeen or qualify students as ME and to attend ME schools within the district.  All testing will take place at McMeen with Mrs Cessar.  If you have any additional questions - please reach out to jennifer_cessar@dpsk12.net

PE - I am so happy to see students learning the routines in PE class and how to play safely with others.  We have started stations in the second round of classes and students are working independently, being responsible, and playing safe. - Coach James

3rd Grade, Sophia Mulvey - Sophia is an incredible role model for our 3rd grade class. She is always trying her absolute hardest and consistently demonstrates what it means to be a McMeen Mustang. - Ms. Rabin

3rd Grade, Ilan Fruchter - Ilan was really brave during math this week! He shared his addition strategy with the class and added it to a poster so his classmates could try it out! I am really proud of you Ilan! - Ms. Caldwell

1st Grade, Jaden Taylor - He did an amazing job this week adding numbers together! - Ms. Fishman

ECE, Kayden Gallegos - Kayden is really starting to open up in class. He is making friends and enjoys playing with everyone. Great job Kayden! - Mr. Hughes

5th Grade, Emmy Ryan - Emmy shows a lot of grit in all throughout our day by engaging in hard tasks, pushing herself to try new strategies, and helping her peers when they need extra assistance. - Ms. Powell

4th Grade, Leanne Suliman, Rana Mohamed, Aveen Jawhar, Amirah Milligan, Phoebe Whitehorn - I am shouting out this group for working so well together to complete this week's PE assessment. - Coach James

5th, Caiyah Stevens - Caiyah always comes to class prepared, engages in activity and demonstrates safe play. - Coach James 

5th Grade, Eileen Babekir - Eileen works hard on her skills, is a great teammate and demonstrates safe play. - Coach James

3rd Grade, Athena Lynch - Shout out to Athena, who has been doing such a great job at completing her work on time! She has also been a great friend by helping her partners when they need it. She gives good opinions and reflections about how to manage emotions and feelings when someone has a conflict in class. Congratulation Athena. - Mr. Barrera

ECE, Millie Peña Kitto - Millie es una niña linda que viene a la escuela con una sonrisa. Tambien ella juega  y se relaciona con sus compañeros de manera positiva  y muestra interes por aprender. ¡Bien hecho Millie y sigue así! Millie is a sweet girl that comes to school with a smile. 3rd Grade, Isabelle K Helfrich - Shout out to Isa! She is such a wonderful student. She is always focused and working hard in class. She is willing to work with anyone and willing to help anyone in need. She shares her smile and positive energy with those who are around her. SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Businesses can support McMeen through the new sponsorship program that is rolling out this year. 100% of the money raised by the PTO sponsorship program for the 2023-2024 school year will fund technology upgrades for each classroom. This money will be matched 1:1 by a technology grant. Your money will go twice as far for McMeen.
