Dear Teller Families,

As many of you know, my husband and I have been in the process of adopting a child from Colombia. In December of 2022, we participated in a host to adopt program through an adoption agency here in Colorado. Our experience was truly magical and at the end of the four weeks, we couldn’t imagine our lives without our host child.

For the past 14 months we have been working extremely hard to complete the adoption process and prepare to travel to Colombia in order to be reunited with our daughter. With that being said, we have been given the green light to travel and we will be leaving Colorado on Monday, March 4th. My family and I will be in Colombia for an extended period of time in order to finalize the adoption of our daughter.

I will be taking a leave of absence for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year, but look forward to being back in the fall. I have hired an interim principal, Dori Claunch who will support Teller during my absence. Dori has served in a variety of positions during her career in Denver Public Schools. She served as the principal at Morey Middle School before taking on the role of Operational Superintendent. Dori is coming to Teller with a wealth of experience and knowledge, and I feel lucky to have such an amazing leader step in for me while I am out. I know the Teller community will welcome her with open arms!

I would love for all of you to follow along with The Bates Family adoption journey! I have asked Cheryl to include pictures of our time in Colombia with the Teller community. Thank you in advance for the well wishes, love, and support. I look forward to seeing everyone in August!

Warm regards,

Sabrina Bates
