Teller Elementary School

Week 1 Complete!

08/23/24, 3:44 PM

Wow! What a wonderful first week of school!

It has been such a joy to see both new and returning Teller tigers back in the school halls. All of our students came into this new school year with such enthusiasm and curiosity and we cannot wait to see how each and every one of them will grow throughout the year.

As a reminder, Teller’s weekly PRIDE Posts will start next week and be sent out every Thursday by noon via Reachwell.  In the meantime, please review this short email about what to expect in the upcoming two weeks at Teller as well as some volunteer opportunities.

1. Fall Enrichments: 8/26-8/30

All Fall enrichments will start on Monday, August 26th (except for Ms. Bartos’s after school music programs). Family/parent confirmation emails went out to families today! We will also be holding our second fire drill on Wednesday, September 4th and our first Shelter in Place on Thursday, September 5th.

5. Gifted and Talented Information Night: 9/5

On Thursday, September 5th, Teller will be hosting a GT Family Info Night session from 5:00-6:00 p.m. (in-person in the library) for families of students who are identified as GT, HGT, and ME; this session is also open to anyone who is interested in finding out more about the identification process at Teller. In this informational session, Mrs. Dorsey will discuss the GT service model and schedule at Teller, provide information about the ALP process, and answer any questions. If you are interested in attending, but cannot make it, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Dorsey with questions at marian_dorsey@dpsk12.org. If you attended the GT Info Night last year, do not feel obligated to come as the information will be the same as last year.

If you cannot make it to the GT Family Info Night, Mrs. Dorsey will be sending out the slides and a recording in my email following the information night.

6. Volunteer at the Teller Library!

Ms. Rosie is looking for help in the library on Tuesdays.  This volunteer position requires a weekly, one hour commitment.  Library volunteers help with checking-in and reshelving books.  If you are available, we always appreciate help with library events too.

If you are interested, please contact Ms. Rosie bridget_rosenberg@dpsk12.net

7. Notes from the Health Office

Medications

- If you are planning to keep medication for your child at school during the 2024-25 school year, please bring the required paperwork and non-expired medication to the health office as soon as possible.  There will be a qualified staff member available to accept these items starting this week during school hours. Please note that school staff cannot accept any paperwork or administer medication at school without the appropriate forms completed/signed by both a parent and the student's health provider.

- If your child has new specific health care needs, please make the nurse aware of these prior to the beginning of the school year.

Vaccines

- Colorado law requires that children attending school are vaccinated to prevent disease. Certain vaccines are required to attend school. Exemptions are accepted (per HB:14:1288) for health, religious or personal purposes; however, a Certificate for Medical or Nonmedical Exemption must be on file  For more information on these forms, immunization schedules, and state requirements, please visit coloradoimmunizations.com

School Based Clinics

Don't forget! If your student does not have a health care provider, needs vaccines, or is in need of supplemental care: Denver Health’s School-based Health Centers (SBHC) form a large network of 19 health centers located inside Denver Public School (DPS) campuses that provide medical, mental health, dental and behavioral health care to any DPS student and sibling(s) at no charge to families. They also offer health education and family planning, as well as insurance enrollment and advising services.
