3) SchoolChoice is Now Open!

DPS SchoolChoice Round 1 for the 2025-26 school year is now open through 4 p.m. on Feb. 18! This annual open enrollment process is for any student who wants or needs to attend a new school next year, particularly incoming ECE-3, kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students.*

To submit your application:

You’ll be notified of your results in late March. In the meantime, find much more information on the SchoolChoice website. If you have any questions, review our FAQs, call 720-423-3493 or email schoolchoice@dpsk12.org.

*Families applying for ECE-3 with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from the DPS Department of Special Education should submit the Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK) application to apply for funding. Families who are applying for ECE-4 must submit the UPK application. Read below for more information.

4) Important Update to the ECE-4 Application

The Colorado Department of Early Childhood has announced that for the 2025-26 school year, families applying for ECE-4 must first submit a Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK) application, and the matching process will be completed through UPK (not through Denver Public Schools).

 To apply:

    • Submit the UPK application by Feb. 3, 2025.
      • If your student does not have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from the DPS Department of Special Education, rank up to 10 schools in order of preference.
      • If your student has an IEP, the application will ask you to submit your application without making school selections.
    • Submit the DPS SchoolChoice application to notify Denver Public Schools of your intent to enroll in an ECE-4 program next year. Select “Universal Preschool Program” as the school. DPS will support applicants with IEP in selecting a school at a later time.

The deadline to be matched in the first round of the UPK application process is Feb. 3. Families who submit their application by this date will be notified of their matches on Feb. 24.

Learn more on the SchoolChoice website.

13) CMAS Testing

Starting in late March, all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be taking the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessments. CMAS is the state-required test for language arts, math, and science, and it is aligned with the state’s academic standards. The test helps us understand how well students are mastering these standards and their readiness for the next grade level. Testing will take place from March 31st through April 25th, so please ensure that your child is present during this important time.

While participation in CMAS is important, we also want to remind you that families have the right to opt out of testing if they choose. We understand that each family has different perspectives, needs, and beliefs, and we fully support your right to make the best decision for your child. If you choose to opt out, please complete the attached forms and submit it to the Main Office as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at cheryl_ruiz@dpsk12.net or john-mark_aydelotte@dpsk12.org.

14) Spring CogAT Testing Sign-Up

If you would like your child (1st, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade only) to take the CogAT assessment this spring, please complete the CogAT Testing Nomination Form before the February 21st deadline.

Please note that students are allowed to take only one cognitive assessment per calendar year. If your child has already completed the NNAT, NGAT, or CogAT in the fall, they are ineligible for testing this school year. During the fall semester, DPS students in Kindergarten and 2nd grade at Teller were tested as part of universal screening, so those families do not need to submit this form unless their child was not assessed during the fall.

CogAT testing will take place from March 3rd-7th, 2025, with makeup dates scheduled as needed. Ms. Dorsey will send an email to all families who have signed up once the application window closes and she receives a roster from the GT central office.

Students who are identified as Highly Gifted and Talented or Magnet Eligible do not need to sign up for testing, as they already have a qualifying cognitive test result. However, Gifted and Talented students may still sign up if desired.

If you have any questions, please contact Marian Dorsey at marian_dorsey@dpsk12.org

Best,

Sabrina Bates, Principal

Jason Smartt, Assistant Principal
