1. No School - 10/11 and 10/14:

As a reminder, there will be no school on October 11th or October 14th. We hope you enjoy the extended weekend and look forward to seeing everyone return on Tuesday, October 15th.

2. Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT)  Screening for 2nd Grade Students:

As a reminder, Teller's 2nd grade students will participate in cognitive testing Tuesday, October  15th, Wednesday, October 16th, or Thursday, October 17th. The Naglieri General Abilities cognitive test (NGAT) is part of the universal screening Gifted and Talented (GT) identification process. All three classrooms will be testing at the same time (10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) on one of the three days listed above. 

Please note that if your child has already been identified ME or HGT, they will not be participating in this assessment. If your child has been identified GT, they are not required to test again unless parents/guardians request additional testing.

Additional information regarding the NGAT can be found here. Scores will be sent home to parents/guardians about one month after the district testing window has ended.

3. MLE DAC Meeting- 10/16:

DPS is excited to invite Teller families to the Multilingual Education (MLE) District Advisory Committee (DAC) on Wednesday, October 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Denver Zoo. Families will learn about the Seal of Biliteracy and other important programs for middle and high school students at our College and Career Resource Fair. Attendees are encouraged to pre-register here.

4. October Dine Outs Nights: 

  • Maria Empanada (Stanley Market) - Tuesday October 15th, from 9am-10pm. Use code MMMM to get 25% of sales donated back to Teller. 
  • Mici (Colorado and 8th) - Tuesday October 29th, from 11:00 a.m.. to 9:00 a.m. Mici will donate 20% back to Teller when participants show the flier in person or on their phones, or use the code GIVEBACK for online ordering.

5. Thanksgiving Lunch Tickets Available for Purchase 0n 10/18:

Save the date for Teller’s Annual Thanksgiving Lunch on Thursday, November 21st! This year’s Thanksgiving Lunch ticket prices are $7 adults and $6 non Teller students.

Tickets can be purchased via MySchoolBucks on Friday, October 18th through Friday, November 1st. Tickets must be purchased in advance in order to attend this event. Additional information about this event, including grade-level lunch times will be published soon. 

6. Your Voice/Tu Voz Family Survey:

The DPS “Your Voice/Tu Voz” Family Survey is open now through Friday, November 1st. This survey focuses on measuring outcomes across the district and its learnings directly impact students and families. Families can access the survey link here

7. Teller’s Fall Festival 10/25: We Need Your Help!

Teller’s annual Fall Festival will be on Friday, October 25th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We will have an assortment of fun activities like a pumpkin patch, costume contest, apple cider, popcorn, and more.

In order to make this event one to remember, we need your help!

  • Candy Donations: Please drop off individually wrapped candy to the main office between now and Friday, October 25th. We use this candy for the Trunk or Treating. 

  • Trunk or Treat: We are looking for families who are willing to decorate their vehicle for our Trunk or Treat. If you are willing, please complete this form. As of right now we only have 9 vehicles and we need at least 20 total.

  • Cake Walk: If you would like to bake or buy a cake for this activity- please email Treisi Martinez.

8. Field Trip Payments DUE by 10/31

If you have not yet paid your child’s field trip fee for the 2024-2025 school year. you must do so by Thursday, October 31st. All field trip fees can be paid via MySchoolBucks

9. Family Cultural Festival:

The Family Cultural Festival is a unique celebration that engages families and communities by promoting fun, learning, and meaningful connections. Taking place on Saturday, November 9th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, this event celebrates multicultural diversity and provides resources to foster wellness and socioemotional growth. 

Families will have the opportunity to learn about restorative practices and take part in a welcoming environment focused on family well-being. Together, we aim to strengthen relationships within the Denver Public Schools (DPS) community and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes our district vibrant. Please RSVP here

10. Totally Teller:

T-minus ONE MONTH until we embark on an astronomical adventure at Totally Teller: Fly Me to the Moon! Explore a galaxy of unique auction items and experiences. Proceeds fuel important programs and resources for our students, making this event not just fun, but impactful.  

Feel free to dress in the iconic style of the Space Race era or bring out your playful side as a quirky extraterrestrial.

11. East High School: DECA Short Story Competition:

We are excited to partner with Denver East High School DECA students in support of their community literacy initiative. The DECA students are launching a Short Story Competition for 3rd-5th graders to promote literacy and creativity while supporting newcomer students in the Denver community.

This year, their mission is to uplift children's literacy, especially for young migrant students who are new to Denver. All funds raised will support Colorado Reading Partners, an organization dedicated to providing individualized reading support to help students reach grade-level literacy by fourth grade.

Competition Details:

      • Writing Prompt: Write a 150-word story that captures the magic of fall—cool breezes, crackling leaves, and spooky surprises. What strange or exciting things happen when the days get shorter and pumpkins start to glow?
      • Who Can Enter: Open to all 3rd-5th grade students.
      • How to Enter: Submit your story through the Google form (link will be provided in a follow-up email).
      • Submission Deadline: October 1 - November 1.
      • Entry Fee: $10 (all proceeds benefit Colorado Reading Partners).

Prizes:

      • 15 finalists will be invited to read their stories at a local bookstore event in mid-November.
      • The overall winner will receive gift cards, event tickets, and a journal.

12. Thank you Earth Rangers!:

We’d like to shout out the Earth Rangers for a wonderful Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day earlier this week. If you haven't already done so, check out their video on YouTube here. We appreciate everything you do, Earth Rangers—keep up the amazing work!
