7) 4th Grade Shakespeare Performance and Festival

Hello 4th Grade Families,

Get ready—our exciting Night of Shakespeare and Shakespeare Festival are less than two weeks away! Please take a moment to read through this message carefully so your family is fully prepared for both events.

NIGHT OF SHAKESPEARE - April 24th, 2025

Our Night of Shakespeare is just two weeks away, and we couldn’t be more excited! The students have been working incredibly hard, and we can’t wait to showcase the 14 scenes they’ve prepared from The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Event Details:

      • Date: Thursday, April 24th
      • Doors Open: 4:30 PM (Please use Door 2, the auditorium entrance)
      • Performance Begins: 5:00 PM
      • Run Time: Approximately 1.5 hours

Arrival Instructions:

Students must arrive in costume. Once inside, they’ll walk to the gym to check in with their classroom teachers, while families may proceed to find seats in the auditorium. Please note: All attendees must enter through Door 2. Anyone attempting to enter through the interior of the building will be redirected to the main line outside to ensure a fair and consistent process for everyone.

Attendance Reminder:

Each student plays an important part, and their presence is essential. If your child is unable to attend the performance, please email me at jbartos@dpsk12.net by April 18th, so we can make arrangements to cover their role. This may result in a student stepping into a role they’ve never rehearsed, or Ms. Bartos having to read lines from the side—neither of which are ideal for the performance.

DL Families:

Students in DL will be picked up by Cheryl Ruiz at 4:25 PM. If you prefer your child not be picked up by Ms. Cheryl, please email both cheryl_ruiz@dpsk12.net and megan_gustafson@dpsk12.net to let us know.

Reserved Seating:

Families who reserved front row seats through Totally Teller will find signs marking those chairs. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Audience Etiquette:

Our students have poured their hearts into this performance. To help maintain a focused and respectful environment, we kindly ask that if you bring young children or infants, you step out into the hallway if they become noisy or restless. This will ensure all performers have the space and attention they deserve.

Parent/Guardian Pickup

After the performance, students will be dismissed from the gym. To help ease congestion, please note that there are two exits available from the auditorium. If you are picking up your child, be sure to check in with their classroom teacher before leaving.

Shakespeare Festival – April 25th, 2025

The day after our Night of Shakespeare, all 4th grade students will attend the DPS Shakespeare Festival at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 25th.

Students need to come to school dressed in their costumes and bring a backpack with a sack lunch, a water bottle, and sunscreen.

The festival is open to the public, and a map of the performance stages is included below for your reference. Our students will be performing at the Hope Theater, located near the large sculptures at the corner of Speer Blvd. and Champa Street. Performance times are listed below.

Additional Logistics:

      • Students will take the bus from Teller at approximately 9:15 AM and return by 2:15 PM.
      • While families are welcome to attend the festival, please do not purchase food from vendors (including food trucks) for your child or any other students. Doing so creates inequity among students.
      • Students will not be allowed to leave the event early to go with their parents
      • However, if you would like to check your child out at the end of the performances at the festival, you may do so by coordinating directly with their classroom teacher.
