Teller Compassion Project: Sharing Stories; Spreading Kindness

08/28/24, 10:45 AM

Hello Teller community! We’re excited to announce that the Teller community is launching an initiative that will give 3rd - 5th grade students an opportunity to lead the student body in raising awareness about issues that matter to them.

The Teller Compassion Project: Sharing Stories; Spreading Kindness is an umbrella initiative that was founded on the idea that empathy and a desire to create positive change develop through learning, human connection and understanding. The Teller Compassion Project aims to provide tangible opportunities for students to grow as responsible global citizens.

Rooted in the library, the Teller Compassion Project will be based on the principle that books are often students’ entry point into learning about something new; they are a space to be curious and to explore ideas. In addition to reading books, storytelling can be an accessible way for young people to learn about the differences in our lived experience. By coupling literature with shared personal stories, the Teller Compassion Project aims to take students on a journey from curiosity to action through increased awareness and understanding.

The Teller Compassion Project will be defined by topics that students propose. At its core, TCP is a student-led and staff and family-supported initiative. Teller’s Librarian, Ms. Rosie, and AP, Mr. Smartt, will Co-Chair the project.

Be on the lookout for more information about how you and/or your 3-5th grade student can get involved in the Teller Compassion Project now!
