1. No School - Winter Break!

As a reminder, there will be no school from Monday, December 23rd through Monday, January 6th. Teller will be closed during this time and all staff will be on break. We look forward to seeing everyone return to school on Tuesday, January 7th!

CHECK OUT THESE RESOURCES:

    • DPS’ Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team has compiled a comprehensive resource list of meals, housing, mental health winter activities/programming and other resources to share with students and families.
    • Meals: In addition to the food banks mentioned in the FACE resources, the City and County's Office of Children Affairs is offering a free supper and/or snack at any Tasty Food site for youth (ages five-18) across Denver during the holiday break! No registration or ID is required. Access the Tasty Food schedule flier (in English and Spanish) for more information. Details on holiday schedule changes and planned holiday closures will be available on the Tasty Food website.

2. A Message from Ms. Nicole

"Hello Teller Tigers,

I want to first start out by thanking you all for allowing me to be a part of this community and your students' lives. I never expected to be involved so much in this community beyond school events. Between babysitting, family dinners, recitals, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations I love every minute of it.

After winter break I will be going on my next adventure and teaching English in Thailand. This has been a harder decision than I anticipated and one of the main reasons is how much love I have for your kids.

I would like this transition to be a meaningful one for us all. I understand that I have the privilege to be considered a safe adult for a lot of your kids and I want to make sure that they get the time they need to anticipate my leave from Teller.

This might be my leave from Teller but this does not have to be my leave from this community. I will return and still have my place in Denver. This can be a reassurance for your kids, maybe you, and definitely for me too!! I cannot thank you all enough!"

3. Need a Night Out?

Adventure Days Dates Available: 12/23, 12/27. 1/2/25, 1/3/25

Need childcare over Winter Break? Sign up for Adventure Days with Ms. Gras! A Few spots left! New dates added!

4. Teller Talent Show Performance

Join us for the annual Teller Talent Show in the Teller auditorium on Friday, January 10th, from 3:30-5:00 pm. It’s sure to be an afternoon filled with creativity and incredible performances!

Our talented students are excited to showcase their skills (dancing, videos, singing, jokes, etc!), and we can’t wait for you to see what they’ve prepared. Come out to support your friends and enjoy a variety of acts that are both impressive and entertaining. See you there, door 2 will open at 3:10pm!

5. Friday Recess Dance Parties

Are your kids getting tired of hearing the same music every Friday? Is the playlist feeling a little repetitive? Starting after the new year, we’re mixing things up! Beginning Friday, January 10th, we'll be playing music from past decades, thanks to Mr. John.

Kicking things off - the 1940s! Expect big-band tunes, jazz swing, and maybe even some Lindy-Hop. Kids are welcome to dress up if they'd like—after all, the 40s were a more formal time!

On Friday, January 17th, we’ll celebrate with a 50s Sock Hop. More decades to come—stay tuned!

6. Spring CoGAT Testing Sign Up

If you are interested in having your child (1st, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade only) take the CogAT assessment this spring, please complete the nomination form included here. Applications for testing are due Friday, February 21st.

Students can only take one cognitive assessment per calendar year, so if your child was already given the NNAT, NGAT, or the CogAT in the fall this year, they cannot be assessed again this school year. During the fall semester, DPS students enrolled in Kindergarten and 2nd grades at Teller were tested with the NNAT or NGAT as part of the universal screening process; those families do not need to submit this form unless their child was not assessed during the fall screening.

CogAT testing will occur from March 3rd-7th, 2025 and makeup dates will be determined as needed. Ms. Dorsey will send an email to all signed up families once the application window closes and she receives a roster from the GT central office. Any students who are identified as Highly Gifted and Talented or Magnet Eligible do not need to sign up for testing, since they already have a qualifying cognitive test result. Gifted and Talented students may still sign up.

If you have any additional questions, please contact marian_dorsey@dpsk12.org.

SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR!

Best,

Sabrina Bates, Principal

Jason Smartt, Assistant Principal
