Upcoming Events

  • September 4th: No School for All Students, Labor Day
  • September 22nd: No School for All Students, DPS Professional Learning Day for Staff

Dress Code--We need your support!

We are committed to excellence and preparing students to be future ready--part of this includes learning how to dress for success. We have noticed with the return to school, many of our older students have returned to us with clothing choices that may not meet our dress code.

Our School Leadership Team (SLT) is in the process of reviewing and rewriting our dress code, but as a general reminder we follow district dress policies, as described here: Student dress and personal appearance shall meet reasonable standards of safety and cleanliness while showing respect for others.

Personal appearance and dress that violate reasonable standards and/or substantially disrupt the educational process at the discretion of school leaders shall not be tolerated.

In the most basic form:

  • No sunglasses, hoods, hats or any other head covering worn inside a building. Headscarves/Hats of a religious nature are permitted as allowed under state and federal law. Head coverings meant to protect hair such as durags are allowed.
  • No inappropriately low-cut or revealing clothing that bares or exposes the chest, buttocks, or genitalia.
  • No clothing that refers to drugs, alcohol, or weapons--no clothing that uses or is obscene, profane, or vulgar--no clothing that threatens the emotional or physical safety or welfare of any person.

We will publish the formal dress code when it is finished and thank you for your support!

If a teacher or staff member identifies that a child’s clothing does not meet reasonable standards or has inappropriate pictures or language, they will have a quiet, private conversation with the student and school psychologist/social worker. Students that are in violation of dress code will be asked to change their clothing and/or remove the offending item.

Denver Children's Choir - DM Partnership and Clarification

Like last year, we are continuing our partnership with Denver Children's Choir (DCC) and new this year, we are hosting a "Timberline" Choir at Dora Moore on Tuesday's after school--This is exciting!

However, there was some miscommunication between us and DCC around the cost to participate and equitable access to our families. We were finally able to connect and we have some clarification.

  1. We are committed to ensuring that all students have access to this opportunity.
    1. To keep costs low for Dora Moore families, we have agreed to pay DCC a fee of $3,000 and the use of our space. This cuts down on the cost for families and solves one of the transportation barriers if the choir were to be hosted somewhere else.
    2. When registering, families are eligible to choose ANY Tuition Code. Specific to our agreement, Dora Moore families can and should feel comfortable choosing the DCC90 Tuition Code on the last page. Rather than revamp their entire registration form just for us, that code [though originally intended for just qualified assistance], provides the pricing that Dora Moore and DCC agreed to for our families. This should equate to about $90 for the year + a registration fee.
    3. Additionally, should a family need 100% financial assistance please sign up with code above and send Mr. Janson (abram_janson@dpsk12.net) an email and we will take care of it.

Ok! So with that said, please register with the directions below! The first session is on September 5th from 4:15pm - 5:15pm and DCC would like to get at least 15 more students signed up this week!

  2. Use the password: Harmony2324
  3. Click on Registration Open! and get to registering!

Foam Party!

We are always committed to bringing back the fun and joy to schooling. With that in mind, we are trying something new and very cool on Wednesday afternoon! We are having a FOAM PARTY!

Each grade-level will rotate through the playground to play and dance in a giant mountain of foam being sprayed from a foam cannon. Yahoo! Each rotation will last about 15 minutes. Students do not have to participate, but we wanted to give families a heads up as those that do may be a little damp at pick up. Of course, a small towel may be a great thing to bring as well :)

Care Solace Services Implementation

DPS has partnered with Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential coordination service that connects individuals with mental health and substance use support. This service is available to all DPS students, families and staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Students, staff, and families may access Care Solace services by calling 888-515-0595 or visiting caresolace.com/dps.

Safety Policies and Visitors

We are chiefly committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. With that in mind, please review Dora Moore’s visitor protocol and policy:

  1. Entrance to the building will only be granted through the main entrance via the security camera buzzer off of 9th Avenue. This is our single point of entry. If you try to enter the building at any other entrance, access will not be granted and you will be required to use the main entrance. ECE parents will sign-in their students and immediately leave through Door #16.
  2. All exterior doors remain locked 100% of the time before, during, and after school. Access to the interior is always restricted. Staff and visitors are NEVER allowed to prop a door open or hold a door open.
  3. All playground gates are locked during the school hours and community members are not allowed to use the playground for any reason during school.
  4. All visitors must report directly to the office, sign-in, and obtain a visitors badge. Even if you are here for a few minutes, this is required of all visitors. If you are in our building without a visitor badge, a staff member will direct you to the office to obtain a visitor badge. Additionally, if you notice an adult in the building without a visitors badge, please help ensure the safety of children by directing them to the office. Failure to follow these requirements will result in restricted access in the future.
  5. All Dora Moore and DPS staff will have their DPS ID badges visible at all time.
  6. During morning drop-off, staff members will be monitoring entrance to the building at all exterior doors. Parents/guardians will not be allowed inside the building unless through Door #1.
  7. Students who are being picked up during the day will only be released to authorized (designated in IC only) individuals. If an adult is picking up a child and is not in IC as an authorized individual, the student will not be released without permission from the legal guardian.

We appreciate your ongoing support and we are committed to doing everything in our power to keep our children safe.

RTD Zero Fare for Youth Pilot Program: Free Rides for Students

Starting in September, RTD will offer free bus and train rides for students 19 and under as part of their new Zero Fare for Youth pilot program. Students can ride for free starting Sept. 1 until Aug. 31, 2024. To board the bus or train, students will need to show a form of ID. This can be a current school ID, valid government-issued ID, registration/permanent resident card, Military ID/dependent card with DOB, or RTD-issued youth special discount card.

With the pilot program in place, please note that DPS Transportation will not be providing paper or virtual RTD tickets for the 2023-24 school year. Although RTD is allowing students of all ages to ride for free, DPS strongly encourages parents or guardians to accompany their children who are in elementary school.
