Increased Traffic Patrols @ Arrival and Dismissal
04/02/25, 8:18 AM
Good Morning!
We wanted to send a quick message as a heads up that DPS Safety and DPD are beginning increased traffic patrols starting today around our campus. We do not want you to get a ticket.
It is no secret that our campus is within a dense and busy urban corridor with inadequate parking.
We and the District have received numerous complaints from community members and other drivers recently regarding parents and families parking illegally during arrival and dismissal blocking on-coming traffic and creating unsafe situations. In particular, this is happening most frequently and most dangerously on Corona Street between 9th Avenue and 8th Avenue. There are multiple 'No Parking Any Time" signs from the 9th Avenue intersection all the way to the playground gate located mid-block. Cars who park illegally here interfere with the left traffic lane on Corona causing on-coming traffic to slam on their brakes or swerve erratically into the right lane to avoid an accident--both are very unsafe situations for drivers and pedestrians.
Please help us keep our campus and students safe (and avoid a ticket!).
We ask that parents and families who drive to our campus:
- Leave earlier and park a block or two away and walk in to arrival and dismissal.
- Use the passenger loading zone on Downing to drop off your students and then safely and quickly leave to make room for other cars.
- Utilize King Soopers two parking lots as well as our friends at Corona Presbyterian Church's lot at 8th & Downing.
Thank you for attention to this matter. We know it is inconvenient and we appreciate your commitment to safety over convenience.
Sincerely,
Mr. Janson & Mrs. Watson
