Quarterly CSC Meeting + Principal Coffee

We will be hosting our first Collaborative School Committee (CSC) meeting this Wednesday after school from 4:15pm - 5:15pm virtually on Zoom. We are hosting our CSC meeting quarterly this year. CSC meetings are open to the public while official voting and decision making is reserved to elected members. The CSC is comprised of the principal, a community member, a school recognized organization, three elected parent representatives, and at least one teacher. We are in need of two new parent representatives if you are interested in serving! Email Mr. Janson at abram_janson@dpsk12.net!

What are the CSC's responsibilities you ask? Great question!

Every school is required by state statute to have a School Accountability Committee (SAC), which are known as CSCs in Denver. The CSC is an advisory committee and responsible for:

  • Providing guidance, evaluation, and recommendations to the Principal about:
    • Spending priorities
    • Preparing a school's Unified Improvement Plan (and school priority improvement and turnaround plan, if required)
    • Principal development plans and evaluations
    • Increasing family engagement, especially ensuring that parents represent the diversity of the student body (including race, free/reduced lunch, limited English proficiency, and disability--as described by Colorado law (.pdf)). The committee's activities to increase parent engagement must include, but need not be limited to:
      • Publicizing opportunities for parents to serve on the CSC, ensuring the diversity of parents on the CSC reflects the diversity of the school's population.
      • Helping the school implement the DPS family engagement policy (such as that outlined by the Family Empowerment Team)
      • Helping school personnel increase parents' engagement with teachers, including (not not limited to) parents' engagement in creating students' READ PlansIndividual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP), and habitual truancy prevention plans.

In addition to our CSC meeting, we will host a quarterly Principal Coffee that is open to anyone! Our first meeting is this Thursday at 9:15am after the bell.

This meeting is intentionally calendared to be the day after a CSC meeting to provide a platform to share out any feedback or decisions from the Collaborative School Committee, discuss school-wide updates, and create space for parents/guardians to provide open feedback on any topic and Q&A time with Mr. Janson.

Bagels and coffee provided! You are welcome to bring your non-school age children as well!

Register Today for Lemonade Day x Young Americans Bank Entrepreneurship Opportunity!

Here is an upcoming event hosted by Lemonade Day and Young Americans Bank! Lemonade Day is a national nonprofit organization that introduces kids to entrepreneurship by wrapping the simple yet profound experience of the lemonade stand with important lessons and learnings. We plant the seed of entrepreneurship in children – nurturing the business, financial, and life skills, self-agency, and growth mindset needed for their future. With over 95 chapter affiliates across North America, Lemonade Day is expanding to Denver in 2024, with the goal of igniting a powerful youth entrepreneurship movement!

On Saturday September 28th, they will be hosting a free 5-hour youth entrepreneurship workshop for participants 3rd-8th grade called Lemonade Day University (a.k.a. LemonU). During this fun and engaging event, participants will learn valuable skills for starting and operating their own business, including setting goals, developing a business plan and budget, and creating a brand and marketing plan. This will be such an incredible opportunity for kids to learn from trained facilitators, collaborate with other young entrepreneurs, and enjoy the sweet experience of starting their own business!
