Walk & Ride to School on Wednesday, October 2nd--Governor Polis is our Celebrity Crossing Guard at DM!

To celebrate National Walk/Roll to School Day, October 2nd we will have a special celebrity guest assisting our crossing guard on the corner of 9th Avenue & Corona Street. Please help us celebrate by traveling to school using “active transportation.”

We are excited to announce that our celebrity crossing guard will be: Governor Polis!

Walk, ride your bike, use your wheelchair, scooter, skateboard, or ride RTD on October 2nd to receive a raffle ticket to win an exclusive lunch with the principal. If you need to drive to school, please park one or more blocks away from the school and come through the main crosswalk (9th & Corona!) to receive your raffle ticket. Our goal is to have everyone use human-powered transportation on this day!

Additionally, Dora Moore and our PTSA are partnering to organize a collective Walk & Roll to School event. For those that are interested, please meet us at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on the corner of 9th Ave and Emerson Street between 8:30am and 8:45am! We will walk and roll our (hopefully large!) group to school together starting at 8:50am. And, you know we'll have our music pumping! We will cross Corona Street together and all give Governor Polis a high five as we enter onto our campus. Light refreshments will be provided.

We are hope to make a HUGE showing! See you Wednesday morning!

Highlights from the Week!

We had a big week... Golden Eagle Student Celebration Assemblies, construction projects on the playground, Dance Parties, field trips, and fire truck visits--oh my!

Action Item: Parents & Guardians to Complete Social & Emotional Screener

As we continue to pursue supporting students to be socially and emotionally well, receiving information about how they are doing is important! All parents and guardians of students in Denver Public Schools are being encouraged to complete a short form to provide input on your child's social emotional well being! You would complete 1 form per student currently enrolled at Dora Moore. Each form will take less than 5 minutes.

  • Step 1. Follow the below link

BESS Parent/Guardian Screening Link or go to tinyurl.com/bessparent

  • Step 2. Enter your child’s DPS ID and then date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY).

  • Step 3. Complete the screening form

Additionally, 3rd - 8th grade students will participate in a self-reporting survey in the next couple weeks during their homeroom periods.

If you want more information, you can view Frequently Asked Questions at (Parent FAQ) or contact our school psychologist Sarah Cherabie (sarah_cherabie@dpsk12.net).

Visit and Support the Dora Moore Community Exchange Store

What is it?
A community 'Store' FREE for ANYONE and EVERYONE within our extended Dora Moore Community. The store has clothing (mostly the sizes of our students aged 3 - 13 years), shoes and non-perishable food.

How does it work?
We call it an exchange store because we hope people will donate gently used clothing items in exchange for the next size up. Kids grow so fast! We also hope people will shop in exchange for volunteering to sort and organize our donated items. We rely on community clothing and shoe donations along with the volunteers to sort, stock, and organize the donations.

We tend to have a fairly steady stream of gently used clothing items coming into the store and we partner with the Food Bank of the Rockies to ensure we always have non-perishable food items.  However, we are always looking for volunteers!

How do I access these free resources?
1. Come shopping during our 'Open Hours', Mondays from 8:30-10:00 and Thursdays 3:00 - 4:30.
2. Stop by and talk to a staff member--we can help!
3. Email Mr. Konz at joshua_konz@dpsk12.net to setup an appointment to shop.

Volunteer opportunities include:
  • 1 time: come alone or bring your friends for as many hours as you can and help us sort, organize and stock!
  • Monthly: individuals or small groups can set up a monthly time that works for them to come help us sort, organize and stock!
  • Weekley: individuals or small groups can set up a weekly time that works for them to come help us sort, organize and stock! Individuals can also jump in and help during our current 'Open Hours', Mondays from 8:30-10:00 and Thursdays 3:00 - 4:30.
    • We ask that monthly and weekly volunteers come to the school during school hours 8:30 - 4:30 M-F.
