Drills Practiced Today

04/21/23, 2:41 PM

Hi Dora Moore Families!

It is important for us to keep you informed of steps we are taking to ensure the safety of all staff and students!

Today, we took the opportunity to practice two different safety drills.

  1. Secure Perimeter - At the end of each recess, we practiced a 'secure perimeter' which involves getting students off of the playground quickly in the event that something potentially dangerous is taking place near the school out in the community. Our students did amazing and were all able to get inside inside in less than a minute.
  2. Shelter In Place (aka a tornado drill) - At approximately 2:00pm, we practiced 'shelter in place' which involves quickly and quietly moving all students and staff to the basement level near the gym and cafeteria in case of extreme and severe weather. Our students did great and we were all (325 students/40 staff members!) able to move successfully downstairs in just a few minutes. The drill only lasted about 8 minutes in all.

We are proud of how great everyone did and are continually committed to ensuring that we are prioritizing the safety of all students and staff!

Enjoy your weekend and see you on Monday!

Sincerely,

Abe & Jillian
