Attendance Matters!

It is essential for students to attend school daily in order to acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be college and career ready. Parents, guardians and students are all responsible for making sure students are on time and ready to learn. Denver Public Schools is kicking off an attendance initiative for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year. Recent research has shown:

  • 1 in 5 students in Colorado are chronically absent.

    • In DPS, 47.5% of students have either chronic or severe chronic absenteeism, which means that almost half of our students have missed at least 15 days of school.

  • Chronic absenteeism has led to more and more students needing intervention by the end of 2nd grade.

Our goal is to hit 90% attendance each and every day for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.

For the year, Dora Moore's overall attendance rate is about 85%.

This is 5% below our school-wide goal for this year. In order to hit our goal of 90% for the rest of this school year, we need each student to be present at least 9 out of every 10 school days! We can do it!

If there are significant barriers to your students attendance, please reach out to your students homeroom teacher and/or our social worker (joshua_konz@dpsk12.net) so that we can partner with you to find a solution! We are in the business of ensuring every student is at school, ready to learn each and every day!

A celebration to note--In February both 3rd grade and 5th grade had the highest attendance rates for the entire school [91.2% and 93.8% respectively]. That's incredible! Great work students and grown ups of 3rd and 5th graders!

Dora Moore Community Store

“Finding ways to support our Community one opportunity at a time.”

  • What is it?

    • We converted an old classroom connected to our lunchroom into a community space that supports the Dora Moore community with lightly used clothing donations including: tops and bottoms in all sizes from ECE to adult, winter hats and gloves, jackets, shoes, and more. We also have a revolving menu of nonperishable food items donated weekly by the Food Bank of the Rockies.

  • Who can use it?

    • Anyone who is connected to our Dora Moore community is welcome to use the store anytime they need it. We know life can get tough, and expensive, so this is a way for us to support members of our community and help lighten the load for families in a way that ultimately supports our students. We wanna help, and this is one small way we have found to be able to do it.

  • How can I use it?

    • Easy. You can call the main office line to talk with Ms. Patty and arrange for food to be sent home with your student (720-424-5300), OR simply come by the school after 3pm on any school day, and do some shopping before dismissal. Ms Amalia donates her time while waiting to pick up her Dora Moore Eagle at the end of the school day, and is happy to walk anyone through the store to make sure they get all the food and clothing supplies they may need!

Add-O-Less-Co: Adolesco Means I Grow!
American kids can benefit greatly from global perspectives and familiarity with multiple languages.  We know kids take to these skills quickly when they are young, yet the thought of sending our kids abroad for the opportunity can be overwhelming or seem financially insurmountable.  This is where Adolesco is uniquely positioned to help.  With 4-decades of foundational experience, Adolesco (a France-based nonprofit) facilitates family-to-family cultural and language immersion adventures for kids between the ages of 9 and 17 (US kids can exchange with France, Italy, Germany or Spain).  We invite you to attend an informational session to find out more. Visit Adolesco to find an event that works for you, or reach out directly to a Dora Moore mom: erin@adolesco.org for more information.

No School for ECE: March 10th (Normal Day for K-8)

As a reminder, there is no school for ECE students on Friday, March 10th. Our ECE team will be attending the annual Rocky Mountain Early Childhood Conference.

After some of the happenings last week in Colorado, DPS is reminding the community about what resources are available for anyone who suspects danger to themselves or others. If you or a student hears of a threat made against another student or the school, this should be reported immediately to a trusted adult, Safe2Tell at 877-542-7233 or online at www.safe2tell.org. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff.
