Celebrating Black History Month @ Dora Moore
We collectively kicked off our celebration through a PTSA-hosted community dinner and collective attendance of Denver School of the Arts (DSA) performance of Black Parade 2023 last week! It was an awesome event!

Our classroom teachers are all working and implementing creative ways to honor and celebrate Black History Month in each of their individual classrooms. Ask your students about it!

We are also hosting an original art contest:
  • Dora Moore is hosting an original artwork competition to celebrate Black History Month.  Students are asked to create original artworks representing any inspirational and prominent Black individuals or groups or original artworks that capture and lift up the beauty of Black people and culture in America. Artwork will be judged on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impressions. We are looking forward to displaying many of the submissions on our bulletin boards near the main office throughout February. Incredible prizes for the top three pieces submitted.

  • All artwork must be original, have the students name and grade on the back, and be turned in to the front office by February 24th.

  • There is a table full of art supplies in the front lobby that all students and families can take with them to participate. Supplies do not need to be returned! Additionally, teachers and classes are encouraged to make space and time for any student who may want to participate.

Do you have an idea of how we can collectively further celebrate Black History Month? Please send us an email! abram_janson@dpsk12.net jillian_watson@dpsk12.net mia_holland@dpsk12.net

Attention Families of 3rd - 8th Graders: CMAS Details

We just finished up a week of math and literacy interim testing, and we are so proud of how hard our students worked on the tests and of how much they have learned this year! The next 6 weeks is a really important time for students to continue to learn new content while also being re-engaged around any gaps that teachers were able to see from the interim assessments. Our spring CMAS testing dates are as follows for all 3rd - 8th grade students:

English Language Arts:
  • Tuesday, March 21st
  • Wednesday, March 22nd
  • Thursday, March 23rd
Math:
  • Tuesday, April 18th
  • Wednesday, April 19th
  • Thursday, April 20th
Science:
  • Tuesday, April 25th
  • Wednesday, April 26th

It is extremely important to have your child at school each of these testing days, ready to do their best! We will begin testing sessions promptly at 9:30 after students eat breakfast and transition to testing environments. Thank you for all you do to support your students in coming to school every day ready to learn and grow - we have been so proud to see what they have been able to accomplish this year! Reach out to your child's teacher or Jillian Watson with any questions regarding assessments.

SNAP Benefits Changing

Coloradans who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will see a reduction in their monthly benefit amount after February 2023. The temporary additional benefit amounts, called Emergency Allotment (EA), were approved by Congress as part of the Public Health Emergency (PHE), which began in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the PHE continues to be extended, the Omnibus Bill (Consolidated Appropriations Act) is now decoupling EA from the PHE. Therefore, these additional benefits will no longer be given to SNAP recipients as of March 2023. Benefit amounts are calculated based on the individual household circumstances.

This is a change enacted by Congress and is not appealable. For additional information, visit Denver Human Services.
