Emergency Drills Practiced Last Week

DPS' Department of Safety and Security conducted their routine, un-announced security and emergency drills on Thursday at Dora Moore. Our students and staff did well with these practice scenarios. In all, the total duration was less than 10 minutes to cycle through each. Additionally, we will have our monthly fire drill this upcoming week.

If you have any questions about these drills, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask!

From DPS: Sign Up for Addressing Youth Vaping Webinar on Feb. 1
DPS Prevention Services is hosting Daniel Nieman of CDPHE for a webinar on Feb. 1 at noon. The webinar will educate parents and staff about how they can combat the vaping surge among youth. Register here to attend the webinar.

Parents play a critical role in preventing vaping, so make time to talk with your child today. This handout has great tips for starting that conversation. Catch My Breath has great resources including a Parent Training Video (also in Spanish) and a Parent Toolkit with information on how to support your child, how to spot a vape, six signs your child may be vaping and other tools for tackling the vaping epidemic. For students needing vaping intervention, MyLifeMyQuit, is a free, confidential quit line. Additional resources for adolescents using substances can be found here.

Spring GT Testing Opportunity
If you are interested in having your child (1st, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade only) take the CogAT assessment this spring, please complete the nomination form. Applications can be found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScunmyJy06R1QW-BL3tv8DpV566k_YgwuXUa6g8spX0JrYj7g/viewform. Applications for testing are due Friday, April 7th. Students can only take one cognitive assessment per calendar year, so if your child was already given the NNAT or the CogAT in the fall, they cannot be assessed again this fall. If you have any questions, please contact Janet Draper at janet_draper@dpsk12.net.
