No Toys or Candy at School!

We have seen a significant increase in the number of toys and candy being brought to school each day. These things are causing a significant disruption to our learning environments and are distracting students from the very reason they are at school--To engage in high-quality instruction and learn!

We are adopting a "Zero Tolerance" policy for toys and candy at Dora Moore.

  1. If your student has a toy or candy out for any reason -- It will be confiscated by an adult and it will not be returned to the student.
    1. 'Toys' include, but are not limited to: Game cards, cars, slime, fidget spinners, drones, marbles, action figures, dolls, stuffed animals, figurines, etc.
      1. Of course, should a student have a formalized plan that allows a tool to support them we will surely allow that or if there is a whole class special reward of some sort with teacher permission.
      2. Sports equipment such as a basketball or soccer ball, stored properly, do not count.

We are not interested in 'what-if' scenarios. Please check your students backpack and ensure that toys and candy are not coming to school. Additionally, please have this conversation with your student. If we see them[toys/candy], they will be ours and we will not return them. Our work is too important to be bogged down by these silly distractions.

Thank you for your partnership!

Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado & ECE Updates

Along with other Colorado school districts, DPS is working with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) to continue expanding its Early Childhood Education program by rolling out a new enrollment process for Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado. This new program will provide additional funding opportunities for our ECE-providing schools and district partners, including charter schools and private ECE providers.

There are some significant changes with the enrollment and School Choice process for ECE this year:

  • All ECE-4 families must complete both a DPS SchoolChoice application and a UPK Colorado application.
  • The first UPK Colorado application window will open on Tuesday, January 17th and close February 15th -- please note that this window is separate from our DPS SchoolChoice window (January 13th through February 14th).

Below are important resources families as they get ready to complete applications for ECE:

  • FAQ: Access FAQs that are specific to DPS. We will continue to update questions and answers as they come in.

    • Note: Translations are in progress and will be made available here.

  • Letter to Families

    • Note: Translations are in progress and will be made available here.

*This is new to all of us and we are all learning as the CDE rolls out this new process.*

Lost and Found & Community Store

Lost and Found Update: Our Lost and Found runneth over! This is the last call to come and claim your lost items this week. On Friday, all unclaimed items will be 'donated' and incorporated into our new community store.

Great segue into--DM's Community Store: In collaboration with the PTSA, our staff, and support from the community, we have created a community clothing store! The purpose and intention for this is to be a free resource for any and all families who might benefit from some extra clothing resources for their family. Additionally, we are working with Food Bank of the Rockies to be able to also provide food to families who might benefit from this type of support.

If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please email our social worker Josh at joshua_konz@dpsk12.net to setup a time to go shopping!

We Are In Need of Subs!
Check out the details in the image above! We are always in need of high-quality substitutes! If you would like to know email HR_Guest_Teacher@dpsk12.org or visit https://careers.dpsk12.org/teach/teach-at-dps/substitute-teaching/

If/when you get into the system, send Abe (abram_janson@dpsk12.net) and Patty (patricia_celaya@dpsk12.net) an email so we can add you to our hotlist to call when we have vacancies! Thank you for considering!

Donations Needed: Warm Clothes and Coats!

In partnership with the PTSA, we are setting up a free clothing store at Dora Moore!  We are collecting clean, gently used or new clothes and coats for families in our community. If you have items you would like to donate, they can be dropped off in the front office! Our social worker, Josh Konz, our school psychologist, Sarah Cherabie, and our school nurse, Erin Brandt, are working to coordinate!

If you or your family are in need of these type of resources, please email Josh Konz at joshua_konz@dpsk12.net to get connected!
