Our New Vision and Values

In the spring, we embarked on a community-led process to identify and create our new vision and core values as a school. It took all spring to get thorough community, staff, and student feedback on these and it took many iterations, but we finally solidified our vision and values!

Then, in the summer we took all of the notes from the community, staff, and students regarding these values and we wrote belief statements and commitments to how we live these out. We will be sharing these with our community over the fall and sharing ways in which these are driving our work.

The first value and commitments we want to share with you is Community:

Ways we have been leaning into this value at school already...

  • We hired a restorative practices coordinator, Ms. Holland, to build relationships with students and staff and help to mend and repair them when harm has been done.
  • We hold 30 minutes sacred each day in every class to celebrate and affirm each student, participate and facilitate social and emotional learning, and ensure all students are welcomed, acknowledged by name, and seen.
  • We have given every Dora Moore student a Dora Moore bracelet as a token and signal that they are a part of us and we all belong together.
    • We have Dora Moore shirts and spirit wear on the way to further and demonstrate our commitment that we are one community.
  • Our teachers have been charged by going on as many field trips as possible this year. They are working hard to schedule these extended learning opportunities while Abe is working hard on securing various community and business partnerships to enrich our students experience in the classroom.
  • We will continue to host free, inclusive community events for all families to participate in! We have already started with Popsicles on the Playground, Back to School Night, Grill & Chill Community BBQ and we are just getting started!

We share our new vision, our new values, and our beliefs/commitments with you because then as we hold ourselves accountable to them, you also are charged to:

  1. Hold us accountable as well
  2. Use your time, talents, and voice to support or work and push us forward!

It takes a village and we are proud to be doing this work!

Fall Conferences Are Coming: October 11th & 12th

Please mark your calendar for the evenings of October 11th and October 12th for Fall Conferences. Classroom teachers will be sending more information out soon to sign-up! Research clearly demonstrates that a healthy and collaborative relationship between schools and families are one of the top factors in determining success of students.

We have a goal of meeting with 100% of our families! If the 11th and 12th absolutely do not work, please work with your student's teacher to find an alternative.

Volunteer Opportunities @ DM!

Are you interested in volunteering at DM? We have a number of opportunities that we are working on!
