First Day Details

Times & Logistics

8:20am: Drop-in Care Begins

  • K-8th grade students can be dropped off at Door #13 on the west side of the building off of Corona Street. Kinder - 4th grade will be in the cafeteria separated by grade level while 5th - 8th grade students will be in the gym. This is free and available to all families that need an earlier drop off option. Students will be escorted out to their class's lineup spot at 8:50am.

8:45am: Playground Supervision Begins

  • Two DM staff members will be outside conducting lite supervision of the playground for 1st - 8th grade students being dropped off. There is no school provided supervision on the playground prior to this time.
    • ECE students cannot be dropped off early as it is required for a parent/guardian to sign them in per licensing requirements.
    • Kinder students should not be dropped off early on the playground without an adult as 1.) They are too little and 2.) More importantly, kinder line up and entrance is through Door #2 which is located on the front of the building off of the northeast staff parking lot.
  • Families are welcome to arrive earlier than 8:45am to play or socialize, but any student on the playground before 8:45am must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

8:50am: Start of School Bell Rings

  • ECE - 4th grade teachers will meet students at their line-up spots. When the bell rings at 8:50am, students are expected to be in line and ready to transition inside. For the safety and security of all students and staff, No parents/guardians/visitors will be allowed to transition with their student inside. Additionally, though the transition into school on the first day may be challenging for some of our students, it is our experience that it is easiest in the long run that goodbyes happen in-line outside.
    • Please know that teachers will transition immediately inside at 8:50am to start their day. Please plan accordingly for drop-off to ensure your student doesn't miss their classes entrance.
  • All students have access to free breakfast each and everyday between 8:50am and 9:00am. Students can grab a breakfast as they come inside and transition to their class.

9:00am: Tardy Bell Rings

  • Any student arriving after 9:00am must sign-in through the front main entrance at Door #1. Unfortunately, any student arriving after 9:00am will not be able to eat breakfast at school as the cafeteria staff will have already transitioned to preparing to make lunch.

Please ensure your students are ready and on-time for learning. Tardies negatively impact a student's schooling experience and academic, social, and emotional growth.

  • If your family is experiencing significant barriers to ensuring your students are present and on-time for school, please let us know! We have resources and connections to resources/organizations that can help to remove those barriers! Email Josh Konz, Dora Moore's social worker, and Sarah Cherabie, Dora Moore's school psychologist to be connected.

3:50pm: Dismissal Bell Rings

  • Teachers will dismiss students promptly at 3:50pm from the same locations of morning arrival for each grade-level. As students are released at 3:50pm, all students must be off campus by 4:00pm everyday, no exceptions.
    • Late student pick-ups negatively impact the relationship between our staff and families. Our staff have their own personal obligations to attend to when their work day is over at 4:00pm. Picking up students on-time and making other pro-active arrangements is a sign of mutual respect for our relationship and our work.

Traffic Procedures and Expectations

For drop-off...

  • To maximize student and staff safety, families should use Dora Moore’s drop off map to familiarize themselves with morning traffic flow.
  • There is no parking in the no parking zones. Passenger loading zones on the school side of Corona Street and Downing Street must remain as passenger loading zones! There is absolutely NO PARKING ALLOWED in these spaces, even for our ECE families. Parking in the passenger loading zones not only clogs traffic, but it makes it really dangerous for other drivers trying to come and go efficiently.
    • We encourage families who drive to school to utilize the passenger loading zones as 'Kiss-n-Go' lanes starting at 8:40am as this will limit the number of cars needing parking.
    • All students must exit the car on the curb-side only. Do not allow your student to get out of the vehicle on the street side.
  • Do not encourage, ask, or demand that your student run across traffic to get to school. It is an expectation that all members of the Dora Moore community use designated crosswalks and lights at each of our four corners. It is better to be a minute late and safe than to put your own student in a compromised position.
  • There should be no drop-offs taking place on 9th Avenue! Drop-offs need to occur on Corona and Downing. 9th Avenue is our bus lane and there is no parking allowed on the school side of 9th Avenue!
    • To the best of your ability, please avoid using 9th Avenue for vehicle traffic entirely. The block is not long enough and the lights are not timed to meet the demand of vehicles. Additionally, many of our families walk to school and use the crosswalks on 9th Avenue. Let's ensure we keep everyone safe by not using 9th Avenue in front of the school! It is very easy to go one or two more blocks in either direction (10th Avenue or 7th Avenue) to turn around in the name of student safety.
  • ECE parents/guardians are required to sign their student in and out every day. This means ECE families will not be able to utilize the passenger loading zone lanes and will need to park in a designated parking zone and walk your student to the playground.
    • Short-term parking for drop-off is available in the King Sooper's parking lot, the Nova Church Parking lot, and on surrounding neighborhood streets. Please use designated cross-walks to safely cross traffic with your students.
  • The staff parking lot is for staff parking only and is never allowed to be used to drop off students. Cones will be used to prohibit entry into the staff parking lot.

Download Our App - No But Seriously, You Need the App!

If you are reading this on an email, it is possible you do not have our app downloaded. Though you will often (not always!) get an email as well, our app is full of features you need!

  • Push Notifications: Our Reachwell app is the only app our entire school and teachers will be using to communicate with you this year! Gone are the days of ClassDeets, Class Tag, Remind 101, Class Dojo, Brightwheel, Bloomz, etc. We have streamlined our communication for all of our sakes! Yahoo!
  • Chats: Though email still remains king, the only way you can send private chats to and from your student's teachers is if you have our app! Chats are simple and quick and you will be using essential communications without the app!
  • Translations: The app will translate all of our messages AND chats into any language you choose. Parents/guardians can chat in their native language and it translates back to us in English. YES!

So....If you haven’t done so already, please download our App (https://moore.dpsk12.org/get-our-app/). turn on notifications, and get verified!

Meal Applications Needed For All Families

All families to complete a meal benefits application for the 2022-2023 school year at this link: https://www.myschoolapps.com/ Due to the expiration of Federal Waivers that Nutrition Services has been operating under since the beginning of the pandemic, school lunches will no longer be free for all students in the 2022-23 school year. All students will need to be recorded by student ID numbers when they take their breakfast and lunch. Breakfast will remain no charge for all students. Lunch prices for 2022-23 will be as follows:

  • Elementary lunches: $2.60

  • Middle School lunches: $2.75

Money can be added to student accounts using www.MySchoolBucks.com. Families will need each student’s DPS ID number to create a MySchoolBucks account. If you do not know this number, you can call or email Patty Celaya at 720-424-5300.

The submission and approval of a Meal Benefits Application provides advantages beyond eligibility for free or reduced-priced meals. Submitting an application also helps ensure students receive the maximum amount of benefits they are eligible for, including discounts on bus passes and some school fees, such as athletics, and reduced AP testing fees. It also ensures schools receive additional resources to support healthy meals for students and afterschool programs. In addition, based on your application, you could be eligible for the P-EBT (Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer) program through the Department of Human Services. Please visit their website for additional information. Your assistance in completing and submitting the Meal Benefits Application is greatly appreciated and has the potential to help all DPS schools. All information provided is confidential and protected.

Purchase School Supplies

School supplies are items teachers and students need for the upcoming school year but are not covered by Dora Moore’s general budget. This year, in an attempt to be more thoughtful with our resources and also save families money, we have changed the school supply process. Instead of families purchasing school supplies on their own which often total over $70 per student, we are collecting a suggested school supply fee of $30 per student. The classroom teachers will use these funds to ensure each child has the supplies needed at the start of school and throughout the year. The only things a family will need to supply themselves are a backpack and water bottle for each student. (If you need a backpack, we do have a bunch to provide! Email Abe or Patty for assistance!)

School Supply Fees can be paid on MySchoolBucks! Please click on this link to pay your school supply fee. Be sure to indicate your child’s name in the “Name” field so that we can track this information easily at the school.

For families that can and would like to purchase an extra school supply fee to help cover the cost for any student who may need financial assistance, you can do so at the link above by increasing the quantity or doing an additional order. We thank you for your support and generosity!

Does Your Child Know Their ID #?

Every child needs to know their student ID number. This number will be used at various times throughout the school year. If your child does not know their student ID number, please help them practice it before the start of the school year. Student ID numbers can be found in Parent Portal. If you are not able to locate your child's student ID in Parent Portal, feel free to contact our main office at 720-424-3560.

Here is a pin pad template you can use when having your child practice their ID number. This is the same pin pad we use in the cafeteria.
