Good evening, Denison Montessori community. The Fun Run was a fantastic community event and a fabulous way to close out the first full month of school! October has arrived and we are gearing up for another busy month. Students are engaged in their classrooms and learning about all kinds of interesting topics and skills. In addition to Hispanic Heritage Month continuing through October 15th, October is also Bullying Prevention and Disability and Dyslexia Awareness month. Monday, October 2, is School Custodian Appreciation Day and Wednesday, October 4th, is Walk and Bike to School Day. We have picture day, parent teacher conferences and FDM’s Fall Festival coming later this month, too! Please read on for more information about these dates and check out the Mark Your Calendars section to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the activities. Have a great week!

Bullying Prevention Tip: October is Bullying Prevention month and our efforts to stop bullying and cyberbullying at Denison Montessori are in full swing! Denison Montessor’s definition of bullying is:

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Examples of bullying include actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

Please talk to your children about bullying and the difference between being bullied and experiencing mean actions from others. Help your child identify trusted adults at Denison that they can report bullying behavior to immediately. The sooner the behavior is reported to an adult at school, the sooner we can act on it!

Parent input requested! Please take a few minutes to complete the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) for your child/children at Denison Montessori. This information will help us support the needs of our students. Use this link tinyurl.com/bessparent2324 and have your student’s ID number and birthdate ready so you can get started. If you have any questions about this survey, please reach out to our social worker, Kirsten Loar, at kirsten_loar@dpsk12.net
Individual school pictures will be taken on October 10th and 11th. Please check with your child’s teacher for their classroom’s day and time for pictures. We will share more information on how to sign up online for picture packages later this week.
State count day for attendance is Monday, October 2nd. Please be sure to have your student in school this date to be counted by the state of Colorado. Student attendance on this date is used for funding at the district level. If your child is sick and needs to be absent this date, please be sure to report the absence using one of the methods listed above.
We will have our first monthly acknowledgment of strong student attendance for the month of September coming very soon. Students who met or surpassed our school goal of 95% attendance and 2 or fewer tardies for the month of September will earn a ticket to the Colorado Rapids home game on October 21st. Parents/guardians can purchase discounted tickets to accompany them. October’s acknowledgement for meeting our school attendance goal will be a free child’s meal at select IHOP locations.
