Good evening, Denison Montessori community! I hope you enjoyed the unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for fall weather since we are finally entering October this week. With the new month comes Count Day, the CSC Meeting, Parent Teacher Conferences, and FDM’s Harvest Festival (formerly Fall Festival). As you can see, it’s another busy month! We hope to see you here at school as we partner with our families in service of our students!

October starts this week! That means all Denver Public Schools have Colorado Count Day on October 1st. This is the official date that the state looks at our attendance to fund DPS. Please be sure your child is at school on this date unless they are sick enough to stay home. We appreciate your help!
We still have openings to join our gardening club, in partnership with the local non-profit Jovial Concepts. This opportunity is for students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Please see the attached fliers for more information about Jovial Concepts and how to register for this free club!
Reducing chronic absenteeism is Denver Public School's attendance focus this year. Last year, DPS had over 33,000 students chronically absent. A student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of school for any reason, excused, unexcused, or suspended. Families may have received communication from DPS about their child’s attendance status so far this year. If your family is encountering attendance challenges,,, please visit the DPS Attendance Webpage for more information, including information on “How sick is too sick'” and information around what parents/guardians can do to support strong student attendance.
Denver Public Schools started School Consolidation Regional Engagement Meetings last week as they have started the process of determining which schools need to be consolidated due to decreasing enrollment across the district. The southwest regional meeting is taking place on Monday, October 14th, from 6pm-7pm at Abraham Lincoln high school. Dinner will be provided, as well as interpretation and childcare upon request. DPS invites our families to register via this link, especially if they will need childcare and/or interpretation services. Questions about the meetings?
