Visual arts teacher update

Good morning, Denison community. I am excited to inform you that we have hired Mr. Leon Hayes for our visual arts position for the remainder of the year. His first day in the building will be Friday, January 17th and his first day teaching art will be Tuesday, January 21st. Please read his bio below and make him feel welcome when he joins our community!

Hello Denison Community,

My name is Leon Hayes. I am excited to be joining the Denison community! My goal is to develop strong relationships with students and staff alike as well as celebrate our diverse identities through the creation of art.

I am a proud Denver native and Denison Alum. I attended Metro State University of Denver and Relay Graduate School of Education, where I studied Art and Elementary Education (B.F.A. and M.A.T.). Currently I am a student at the University of Denver pursuing a certificate in User Experience Design.

I believe a world of possibilities was open to me because of my education, and I plan to create the same opportunities for the students of Denison.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my 2 kids (some of you may know Leon), my beautiful wife and my friends. Skateboarding and painting are my passions. This is the end of my ninth year teaching in Denver. I spent one year as a Kindergarten teacher and the rest of the time teaching 3rd and 5th grade.

I look forward to getting to know everyone! I’m approachable, so please do not hesitate to introduce yourself if you see me around.
