Safety Update

12/11/24, 12:22 PM

Good afternoon, Denison Montessori community. At Denison, your student’s safety is our top priority. We realize that you place an enormous amount of trust in us each day when you send your child to school. We continue to do everything we can to ensure all of our students are safe at all times.

This morning during arrival, a person who is not a member of the Denison Montessori community was parked in the Kiss and Go lane.  The individual became extremely agitated and profane when asked to move his vehicle.  DPS's Department of Safety and Security was notified, along with the Denver Police Department.  Denison's staff re-routed the Kiss and Go Lane to prevent students and families from interacting with this individual.   The person left campus and his car was towed.

DPS's Department of Safety returned to campus for ECE3 dismissal and will also be present at dismissal later today.  School operations have been running as typically scheduled throughout the day.

As a reminder, we have the following safety protocols in place each day:

  • All exterior doors are locked at all times. Anyone entering the building must buzz in at the main entrance. All buzzers have cameras monitored by office staff.

  • The building also has indoor and outdoor security cameras that can be monitored all at once.

  • All visitors are being met at the main door and only authorized visitors are able to enter the building through the main doors and report to the office.

  • Adults outside have a walkie-talkie that communicates with the main office and school leaders.

  • Our school community completed lockdown and lock-out drills earlier this semester to ensure proper steps during emergencies.

  • In case of an unlikely emergency, the office will contact DPS Safety and Security and/or the Denver Police Department.

  • We evaluate situations, such as today's incident, to determine if it is safe to provide the students with outside recess.

  • All available administrative and support staff are vigilant in supervising all areas of the school - indoor and outdoor perimeters.

We appreciate your partnership in following these protocols and any other directions that are provided to ensure the safety of all of our community members.

Kindly,

Natalie Fickes
