Barney Ford Elementary

Weekly Update: November 16, 2023

11/16/23, 5:32 PM

Dear Families,

As we head into Thanksgiving Break we want to share our gratitude to all of our scholars and families. We are grateful for your support, suggestions, and presence at Barney Ford. We wish you all a break filled with love, gratitude, and rejuvenation.

Thanksgiving Lunch

Today we hosted our annual Thanksgiving lunch for students. Students enjoyed the turkey, mashed potatoes, and all the fixings. Unfortunately, our cafe is understaffed at the moment so we could not invite families to dine with us. We plan to have families back for Thanksgiving lunch next year.

All School Field Trip to The Nutcracker

On December 1st the whole school will be going to see the Nutcracker ballet together. This is our 3rd annual all-school field trip. You can learn more about this classic ballet here. Please be sure your child is on time to school and wearing their Barney Ford grade-level shirt and uniform pants. All staff members will be on the field trip. Any students who are not going on the field trip will need to stay home. We hope all students attend and enjoy this tradition.

Lost and Found & Uniform Sales

Are you missing any coats or other clothing? There is a good chance that it is in our Lost and Found! Our Lost and Found is overflowing. Please stop by to see if the clothing belongs to your family.

We noticed an uptick in students wearing dark-colored jeans and/or black leggings which are not part of our school uniform. Students may wear navy or khaki pants, shorts, skirts, and jumpers. Our website shows what clothing is allowed.

Starting in December, we will be selling polos, long-sleeve shirts, and sweatshirts with the new logo on them. Orders can be placed on December 1st, February 1st, and April 1st and will take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Contact the main office if you want to place an order.

Day Camp on December 14th & 15th.

Students will go home at 1:00 on Thursday, December 14th and there is no school on Friday, December 15th. Discovery Link is providing care on both days at Barney Ford. Registration is required and we are offering two evening events to help families sign up, December 5 and December 12. Please contact LJ Ollison if you need help signing up.

Attendance Update

Last week our attendance rate was 90.7%, much lower than the 95% goal we are trying to achieve. Second grade had the best attendance at 94.7%. Ms. Bañuelos’s class reached 98% attendance for the week. Amazing!!
