Family events this week
10/15/24, 8:50 AM
Dear Families,
Welcome back from fall break! We hope your week was restful, safe, and fun.
This week we have several events we want to share with you.
Tuesday: Hispanic Heritage Family Fun Night
Tonight is our first Family Fun Night of the school year. We have a pizza dinner from 5:30-6:00 in the cafe. From 6:00-7:00 we will have a mariachi band in the music room and a flag-making art project in the cafe. We will be using the gym for overflow seating for the dinner.
Día de Los Muertos Oferenda
Several Barney Ford families are organizing a Día de Los Muertos Oferenda. An oferenda is a traditional way to remember and honor the dead and celebrate the harvest.
We invite families to bring items for the oferenda during the family night and throughout the next two weeks. Items can include photos of loved ones and other items.
Wednesday: Celebrity Crossing Guard on Walk/Roll to School Day!
National Walk/Roll to School Day is Wednesday, October 16th. On this day, we will have a special celebrity guest assisting our crossing guards, Father Dang, the Denver Police Department Chaplain. Please encourage students to travel to school using “active transportation.”
Students who walk, ride a bike, use a scooter, or ride RTD on October 16th will receive a raffle ticket to win an exclusive lunch with the principal. If students need to drive to school, they can park one or more blocks away from the school and come through the Dearborn crosswalk to receive a raffle ticket. Our goal is to have everyone use human-powered transportation on this day!
More than 35 DPS schools are participating in this event. Together we can create a healthy community!
