Dear Families,
Spirit Week was so joyful! We loved seeing all the students dressed up each day and spreading holiday cheer. Thank you for all the holiday wishes, gifts, and treats. They are appreciated! We wish you all a restful, safe, and joyous winter break. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 7th.
Discovery Link is running free camps on December 20, 23 & January 2, 3, 6. The camp hours are 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Barney Ford. Registration is required. In-person registration help is available Every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 - 6:00.
Free Meal and Resources for Winter Break
- DPS’ Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team has a list of meals, housing, mental health winter activities/programming and other resources to share with students and families
- Meals: The City and County's Office of Children Affairs is offering a free supper and/or snack at any Tasty Food site for youth (ages five-18) across Denver during the holiday break! No registration or ID is required. Click here (in English and Spanish) for more information. Details on holiday schedule changes and planned holiday closures will be available on the Tasty Food website.
Discovery Link: Basketball League for 4th and 5th Graders
Discovery Link is organizing a Barney Ford Basketball Team starting in February. The team is open to 12 students. Registration starts January 6 at this link.
- 9 Week Season (2/3-4/12)
- Weeks 1-2: Practice Only
- Weeks 3-8:
- 1 practice on Monday
- 1 game on Wednesday or Thursday
- Games will be held weekly at Swigert, Isabella Bird, or Lena Archuleta.
- Week 9: Practice and End of Season
- Tournament on Saturday, 4/12

School Choice: Middle School Fair, January 10th
The DPS school choice window is open and it is time for our 5th grade families to think about which middle school is right for their children. We are hosting a Middle School Fair on Friday, January 10th to help families make this choice. We will have ___ Middle Schools at Barney Ford from 2:00-3:30 in the library. You are welcome to meet with the representatives from each school to learn more about what makes them unique. Contact the main office if you have any questions about the Fair.
First Friday Coffee and Conversation, January 10th
All families are welcome to join us on Friday, January 10th at 8:00 for our First Friday Coffee and Conversation with the principals. At this meeting, we will look at the many resources our students use to learn math and literacy. This is also a Collaborative School Committee (CSC) meeting where we will discuss the school budget for next year. This is an opportunity to provide your input on our next year’s priorities.
Adult English Classes
Registration is open for spring semester Adult English classes at Barney Ford. 8-10 am on Tuesday and Thursday.
- Beginner-level English Class
- Jan 14 to March 20 = 10 weeks = $60
- April 1 to May 1 = 5 weeks = $30

Attendance Update
Our attendance rate was 90% again last week, below our goal of 93%. Fourth grade had the best rate at 93%.
Please do not take extended vacations during the school year. If your student misses 10 days of school in a row, they will be disenrolled and may lose their spot at Barney Ford. Plan your vacations during our winter break, December 20 through January 6. School starts up again on Tuesday, January 7th.
