Dear Families,

 

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

 

We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic-American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. The theme for 2024 is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.” 

 

Our school will host a Hispanic Heritage Family Fun night on October 15 featuring a Mariachi band and a

hands-on art workshop. We’ll send more information about this exciting event soon.

Tonight: Cub Scouts Registration @ 5:30 - 6:30 pm

If your son or daughter loves to swim, fish, camp, sing, do crafts, and meet other children Cub Scouts is for them. The Cub Scouts will meet on Fridays from 3-4 at Barney Ford. All boys and girls in grades 2-5 are welcome to join. Sign up tonight from 5:30-6:30 in the cafe. 

Tomorrow: Dollar Dress Down Day

Students can bring a dollar and choose to dress in their favorite clothes tomorrow. The money we collect helps fund our field trips, family events, and other school-related activities.

Thursday, September 26: Black Family Engagement Event

Please join us on Thursday, September 26 from 3:00-4:00 we are hosting our first Black family gathering. We will have food, opportunities to get to know each other better, and a chance to meet school staff and volunteers. Childcare will be provided. Please RSVP by Monday so we know how much food to order.

Friday, September 27: No School

There is no school next Friday because it is a teacher planning day. Discovery Link is hosting a FREE camp at Barney Ford from 7:00 - 5:30. Please register with Discovery Link to sign up.

CSC Family Representatives

Thank you for voting for our Collaborative School Committee family representatives. We appreciate everyone who put their name in to serve and welcome everyone to our CSC meetings. Congratulations to Madian Dominguez, Karen Quezada, and Lexis Walsh Tate who were elected to serve as family representatives this year. We will send information about our next CSC meeting soon.

Adult English Classes Start Oct 1st

We are partnering with the English Learning Center to offer English Classes for adults in our community. The classes start on October 1st and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m. Registration information will be sent out soon.

Free Afterschool Enrichment Programs Starting Soon

We are excited to offer free after-school enrichment opportunities for our 2nd-5th graders. Please contact Discover Link Program Director Ariana Rodriguez or other Discovery Link staff to register, ariana_rodriguez@dpsk12.net.

Attendance Update

Last week our attendance rate was up two percent to 94%. All grades met our school of 93% except kindergarten and ECE. Third grade had the highest attendance at 96%!
