Weekly Update: April 10, 2025
04/10/25, 5:31 PM
Dear Families,
Thank you for your patience and trust during Wednesday’s Lockdown and Secure Perimeter. To ensure the safety of our community, we may utilize these safety protocols. We want to reassure you that all our students and staff were safe throughout Wednesday’s events.
Tomorrow: Picture Day
Just a reminder that Spring Pictures are tomorrow! If you are purchasing pictures, please send your student to school with a picture form. (Exact Cash, Check, or Online). Students are allowed to Dress Down.
CMAS Testing Continues
Most students in grades 3-5 finished the math portion of the CMAS test today. We will continue with literacy testing (grades 3-5) and science testing (grade 5) next week. Please be sure your students come to school well-rested and prepared to work hard on the tests each day. Do not schedule any appointments during the testing window, which ends on April 25th.
No School Friday, April 18
Next Friday, April 18, is a Teacher Planning Day. There is no school for students that day. Discovery Link will be open.
Complete the BESS Screener
DPS uses the BESS screener to provide a quick and reliable way of assessing the behavioral and emotional strengths and potential risk levels in children. Just as students participate in screenings for vision, hearing, physical health, reading, and other academic areas, the BESS provides an indicator of a student’s mental health risk level. Screening allows for early identification of supports that can help offset current or future mental health risks in students.
Please use this link to complete the screener for your children. You will need their student's ID number and date of birth to access the form. Contact our school psychologist, Beulah Morman (beulah_morman@dpsk12.org) for more information.
Digital Citizenship for Families
Prepare kids to think critically and use technology in positive, creative, and powerful ways! The K–12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum's Family Tips and Family Activities cover six topics available in multiple languages.
School Choice Round 2 Open
SchoolChoice Round 2 is open from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8 through 4 p.m. on Aug. 29. Round 2 is on a first-come, first-served basis and is for our families who missed Round 1, took part in Round 1 but want to re-explore their options or are new to DPS for next school year.
Attendance Update
Last week’s attendance rate was 90.6%. Our fourth-graders had the best attendance at 92.2%. Let’s keep our attendance rate high during CMAS testing.
