Barney Ford Elementary

Weekly Update: March 20, 2025

03/20/25, 5:31 PM

Dear Families,

Thank you for your flexibility with today’s operational closure. We missed the students and we’ll be back open tomorrow for Dollar Dress Down Day. It is an early release day, with dismissal at 1:00. Discovery Link will be open until 5:30.

Did you see our school highlighted in this wonderful video showcasing Barney Ford’s social-emotional learning?

Ms. Bañuelos and Ms. Lerma’s class held a wonderful celebration of learning last Tuesday. Thanks to all the families who help with the projects and came to celebrate our scholars!

Spring Break

We wish your family a restful, safe, and joyful Spring Break. It begins on Monday, March 24, and students return to school on Tuesday, April 1st. Please plan your travels when we are out of school. Extending the break affects your child’s learning and social development. We will be taking CMAS tests after the break and want to make sure students are fully prepared.

Complete the BESS Screener

DPS uses the BESS screener to provide a quick and reliable way of assessing the behavioral and emotional strengths and potential risk levels in children. Just as students participate in screenings for vision, hearing, physical health, reading, and other academic areas, the BESS provides an indicator of a student’s mental health risk level. Screening allows for early identification of supports that can help offset current or future mental health risk in students.

Please use this link to complete the screener for your children. You will need their student's ID number and date of birth to access the form. Contact our school psychologist, Beulah Morman (beulah_morman@dpsk12.org) for more information.

New Job Opening: Barney Ford Custodian

Barney Ford has a full-time custodian position open. Apply here if you are interested in joining our team.  You can also talk to Chris Martinez, our facilities manager, about the role.

Attendance Update

Our attendance rate was a bit lower last week at 89.2%. Our first-graders had the best attendance for the second week in a row at 91.5%. Please help us reach our goal of 93% after spring break.
