DSST: Elevate Northeast High School

Nationwide Test

10/04/23, 10:41 AM

Good morning Bulldog Families,

A nationwide test of the emergency and wireless alert systems will be conducted on Wednesday, 10/4, at 12:20 PM MST and alerts will go off on cellphones, TVs, and radios. On cell phones, it will state a test message and likely will sound an audible tone. On TVs and radios, it will be similar and will happen between 12:20 and 12:50. This likely will not affect TVs in our schools unless they are connected to cable service or antenna.  We want you to be aware of the test to note that it is not an emergency and that the messages could potentially disrupt class. Please let staff and students know about the test; ensure staff share with students during advisory on 10/4 ahead of ANET testing. (feel free to copy this blurb).

For additional context, this is a joint test between FEMA and the FCC to ensure public emergency systems are effective. Usually, these systems are used to announce severe weather or safety announcements like Amber Alerts, and it can be activated by the U.S. President or FEMA.  Additional information can be found here.
