Dear DSST: Elevate Community,

 

This is a letter to inform you regarding advocacy efforts that some students participated in today to protest gun violence in schools. Some DSST: Elevate NE HS students participated in a walkout related to this advocacy today.

 

Brief context on today’s advocacy efforts:

• About 120 students in grades 9-10 participated in a scheduled walkout this morning, protesting gun violence in schools. The students were accompanied by staff members in order to help ensure the safety of the students.

• We always do our best to be ready to respond to these situations and respect students’ right to free speech while prioritizing school safety and also maintaining school business at DSST. Students who did not walk out had a normal school day.
