Lockdown Drill 1/13

Dear DSST: Elevate Families,
Today, January 13th, the DPS Department of Safety came to perform a Lockdown drill for our campus. A Lockdown is performed when there is an imminent threat in the area in or around the school. In such an event students and staff duck out of site in the classroom and all classroom and exterior doors are locked. This drill is performed twice a year with the first 30 days of both semesters. These are not scheduled and can occur at any moment during the school day.
Our staff and students were told by DPS Safety and Security personnel that we did a “phenomenal” job today executing the drill. The rooms were calm and the teachers did a great job of getting students into a safe place where they would be out of sight. I want to commend all of them for taking this drill seriously.
Please know that we take the safety of your students seriously. We do everything possible to plan for and practice emergency situations. We ask for your help by talking to your student about the importance of these safety drills so that with their help our staff can do everything in our power to keep them safe in the event a true emergency were to occur. We have cleared all the issues that could have set the alarm off on Monday and have ensured our system is working properly.

Hoy, 13 de enero, el Departamento de Seguridad de DPS vino a realizar un simulacro de encierro para nuestro campus. Se realiza un encierro cuando existe una amenaza inminente en el área dentro o alrededor de la escuela. En tal caso, los estudiantes y el personal se retiran del salón de clases y todas las puertas exteriores y del salón de clases se cierran con llave. Este simulacro se realiza dos veces al año con los primeros 30 días de ambos semestres. Estos no están programados y pueden ocurrir en cualquier momento durante el día escolar.
El personal de seguridad y protección de DPS les dijo a nuestro personal y estudiantes que hoy hicimos un trabajo "fenomenal" al ejecutar el simulacro. Las habitaciones estaban tranquilas y los maestros hicieron un gran trabajo al llevar a los estudiantes a un lugar seguro donde estarían fuera de la vista. Quiero felicitarlos a todos por tomarse este ejercicio en serio.
Tenga en cuenta que tomamos en serio la seguridad de sus estudiantes. Hacemos todo lo posible para planificar y practicar situaciones de emergencia. Le pedimos su ayuda hablando con su estudiante sobre la importancia de estos simulacros de seguridad para que, con su ayuda, nuestro personal pueda hacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para mantenerlos seguros en caso de que ocurra una verdadera emergencia. Hemos solucionado todos los problemas que podrían haber activado la alarma el lunes y nos hemos asegurado de que nuestro sistema funcione correctamente.
