Unfounded Threats

09/22/22, 4:03 PM

Dear KSPA Team & Family,

As you know, student safety and their well-being are our highest priorities at KIPP Colorado. With that in mind, I am writing to inform you of a string of recent incidents at our school. It was reported to the administration on Tuesday that a KSPA student was reported to have a weapon on campus. After a thorough investigation, we determined that the threat was unfounded. We subsequently heard two more threats of a similar nature. We thoroughly followed up on every threat presented, and determined that they were also unfounded.

These reported threats appear to stem from student rumors. While rumors are all but inevitable for some students of this age group, we would like to solicit your help in speaking to your scholar about the impact that rumors of any nature can have, especially dangerous rumors such as threats of violence. We are working with our social workers and our culture team to determine next steps for deepening student understanding around the nature of rumors and the impact that it has on our community at large.

I understand that, although unfounded, this incident can still be highly upsetting and triggering for many of us. I know this may bring up questions and concerns and I am happy to give space to talk. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to me at araybon@kippcolorado.org or 720-460-1938. I will be holding office hours on Friday 9/23 between the hours of 1 - 3 p.m. as well as Monday 9/26 between the hours of 11 a.m. - 1p.m.

In Partnership,
