Dear Parents,

Our online state tests, CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success), will begin at the elementary on April 8th. Students in 3rd-5th grade will be tested in English Language Arts and Math. Science will also be assessed in 5th grade.

Please mark your calendars with the dates below.

  • English Language Arts for grades 3-5: April 8-10
  • Math for grades 3-5: April 14-16
  • Science for grades 5: April 14-16

On these test days, we ask that students arrive at school early or on time. Help your children feel their best by making sure they go to bed early, eat a good breakfast, and bring healthy lunches and snacks. Please do not schedule appointments for your child during these test days. More specific schedules will be created and shared with families by classroom teachers.

These test results are important to your student and Frontier Academy.  The scores help us determine how much progress we have made, and they affect our standing with the state of Colorado and District 6.

The Colorado Department of Education states that students may not have cell phones or smartwatches in the testing room.  Students need to leave their devices at home or they will be collected during testing.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Willis at 970-330-1780.

With your help, spring testing will be great!  Thank you for your support.

What About Multi-Day Exams, Projects, or Essays?

For classes with longer assessments, the scheduled exam day will typically be the final due date. Teachers have flexibility to administer multi-day finals and will also provide meaningful assignments on the scheduled final day.

For example, a long essay might be turned in early, but students could be asked to reflect on their work, complete a self-assessment, or give a presentation on the final exam day.

What Happens on "Non-Test" Days?

Teachers will use these days for:

  • Review and preparation before exams
  • Extended time or makeup tests
  • Career exploration activities
  • Engaging lessons that didn’t fit earlier in the year

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We appreciate your support in helping students finish the semester strong!

Students who are testing:

ALL Students Testing:

Please have your student at Frontier Academy secondary building by 7:15 on test days WITH THEIR SCHOOL-ISSUED COMPUTER AND CHARGER.

We ask that students leave the following items at home:

  • Cellphones and any other electronic devices
  • Backpack or any school-related materials

P/SAT Testing:

  • Optional items to bring: approved calculator, water, snack, external mouse, mouse pad.

Students who are not testing:

During the April 16th and 17th testing days, teachers will be proctoring exams all day and will not be available for instructing classes or individual student help. The benefit of this plan is that we can complete tests as efficiently as possible to reduce the overall amount of time lost for instruction. As a result of the quick testing time frame and lack of direct instruction, we will be treating those days as an independent workday for any student who is not testing. This means students may work independently from home if you would like to excuse the absence with the front office, or if that isn’t possible, they may work in the school building in a supervised setting. This is a great opportunity for students to catch up on or further master the work they have been doing in class this semester. Should your student need to come to school during testing times, we will provide supervision and a space for them to work for the day.
