K-5 News

Driveline Update

🚗📚 During conferences on October 8th and 9th, Driveline will run from 3:20 to 3:40 to give teachers time to prepare and free up parking for parents.

Driveline attendants will remain until 4:00, and students not picked up by then will be sent to the Enrichment program. ⏰

🛍️Volunteers Needed! 🛍️

Our students have been working hard to earn Dojo points, and it’s time for them to start redeeming them at our schoolwide Dojo store! We need volunteers to help "sell" prizes, stock inventory, and track points spent.

📅 The store will run every Thursday from 12:00 pm-3:20 pm, with each class visiting every other week. Shifts range from 1 to 3 hours, and we’re looking for volunteers who can help on more than one Thursday.

Early Student Check-outs

📚 Regular attendance is a vital part of the teaching-learning process. Students should not be checked out early except for emergencies 🚨, hardships 😔, pre-scheduled appointments 🗓️, or activities prearranged with the administration 🏫.

⏳ To maximize instructional time, students leaving school early will be called to the office when you arrive to check them out. Parents must sign the student out ✍️, giving a reason for the early departure. If a student is leaving for a medical or dental appointment during the school day 🩺, a doctor’s note 📝 must be provided to the front office the following day to support the early release.

⏰ There will be no student check-outs after 3:10 pm unless pre-approved by the administration. Students who routinely check out early, without prior approval, will be referred to an administrator.

Dropping of School Lunches

🚫 We are asking that no more fast food deliveries 🍔🍟 be dropped off at the front office under any circumstance. We will no longer be delivering fast food to students in the lunchroom.

👨‍👩‍👦 Parents are welcome to join their student with the lunch of their choice 🥗🍱 if they are scheduled to be visitors. Please send your child with a lunch 🥪, or lunch will be provided by the school 🏫.

Dia De Los Muertos Celebration📅

October 18th, 2024

🎶 Before and after your student’s concert, you and your family are invited to explore the food and culture of Mexico at the Día de Los Muertos Celebration & Potluck in the gym from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.

🎨 LULAC and Frontier families will host traditional games, face painting, and an ofrenda to share this beautiful celebration.

While the event focuses on traditions from Mexico, we welcome potluck dishes from all cultures!

Feel free to bring a family recipe—just drop it off in disposable containers in the gym.

📣 Important Policy Update for the Enrichment Program 📣

Due to the increasing number of children attending the enrichment program at 4:00 pm without being enrolled, we need to implement a new payment policy. To ensure we have the right staffing based on the number of enrolled children, it's essential to maintain proper ratios. When unregistered children attend, it disrupts this balance.

Starting Monday, 10/14/24, our late pick-up policy will be as follows:

Families will be allowed up to 2 drop-ins (up to 30 minutes each) at no charge.

After that, any additional drop-ins will incur a $45.00 fee, which families are required to pay.

🎨 Art Club Begins October 14th! 🎨

Art Club will start the week of October 14th, with two groups meeting at 7:00 a.m. in the Art Room and continuing until the first bell.

2nd & 3rd graders meet on Monday mornings. ✂️🖍️

4th & 5th graders meet on Tuesday mornings. ✏️🧵

This year’s theme is fiber art 🧶, and the club will run through the Gallery Hop in May.

The fee is $80 for the entire year. Please submit payment (checks to Frontier Academy) and one form per child to either office by October 10th. 📅💰

We can’t wait to get creative together! 🎉

📢 Please note that volunteer orientation must be completed every school year.

📍 Location: K-3 Campus

Please bring a valid ID and check in at the K-3 front desk.

2nd Tuesday of Every Month

⏰ Time: 6:00 PM

📍 Location: OPT Meetings (K-5 Library)

✅ Action Required: After completing the volunteer orientation, please fill out the Volunteer and Visitation Form.

This form must be completed every time you volunteer unless it's a recurring volunteer session.

6-12 News

📚 Concurrent Enrollment Informational Session

📅 Date: 10/9/2024

⏰ Time: 5:30-6:30 PM
📍 Location: Learning Center (formerly the Library)

During this session, we will cover important topics, including academic responsibilities, opportunities, billing updates, and the completion of agreement forms.

Your attendance is strongly encouraged if your student is currently enrolled in an Aims or UNC course.

If your student has not yet enrolled but you would like more information, we welcome you to join us as well.

Please feel free to reach out to the Counseling Department with any questions.

🏀 7th & 8th Grade Boys Basketball Registration is NOW OPEN!

Tryouts begin on October 14th.

Be sure to complete your registration, submit an updated physical, and make your payment before the first day of tryouts.

🎓 College & Career Fair
📅 Date: 10/22/2024
⏰ Time: 1:00 PM
📍 Location: Middle School Gym

This event is for 8th-12th grade students to explore college opportunities, including programs, classes, and scholarships.

We’ll also have representatives from various trades, such as electricians and HVAC professionals.

Each grade will have about 30 minutes to walk through and connect with the exhibitors.

Please note, this is a student-only event.

Security Update

At Frontier Academy, we strive to make both our campuses safe and efficient. 🚸 This is a reminder to everyone during pick-up and drop-off times: Two lanes are clearly marked "Pickup/Drop Off" 🅿️ & "Thru Lane Only" 🚗. The through lane is especially important because it allows drivers to come and go without being held up. However, when someone parks or stops in the through lane for a significant amount of time (as if waiting for their student to be picked up), it creates a huge traffic jam behind them. 🚦

More importantly, should an emergency vehicle 🚒 need to enter the parking lot, they could be delayed due to this. Please don’t stop, stand, or block the “Thru Lane.” 🚫

An alternative to this:

Find a parking space in the parking lot. 🅿️
Circle around until an appropriate space in the pickup/drop-off lane becomes available. 🔄
Upon entry to the parking lot, immediately get into the pickup/drop-off lane. 🚘

K-12 Unity Day Celebrations

We’re excited to announce our K-12 Unity Week, focused on Bully Prevention, and a fun Dress Down Week!

Dress Down Week:

October 21: Flannel Day

October 22: Crazy Sock Day (Secondary will also celebrate College Day, coinciding with the Career Fair)

October 23: Wear Orange

October 24: Spirit Day – Show your school spirit and attend the games to support FA!

In addition to these fun events, all K-12 students will participate in Bully Prevention lessons through the Second Step program during October.

Although National Unity Day is October 16th, we’ll be celebrating on October 23rd due to E-Week.

We look forward to a meaningful and engaging week!

Kicking off October 18 at the Día de Los Muertos celebration and ending October 25 at Trunk or Treat!

All donated food will stock the Frontier Academy food pantries at both campuses.

We are looking for the following items:

Ramen (chicken & beef)

Canned chicken, tuna, tuna packets, Spam

Tomato soup, hearty soups, tomato/pasta sauce

Corn, pinto beans, black beans

Spaghetti, boxed pasta, fideo, boxed mac & cheese (regular and microwave)

Spaghettios, Chef Boyardee ravioli

Dole fruit cups, pudding, applesauce

Nutrigrain bars, granola bars
