Secure Perimeter Today; No Immediate Safety Concern

03/12/24, 11:47 AM

Hi Families,

It's important to keep you informed of incidents that impact our community.

This morning at 10:50am, we were placed in a 'secure perimeter' by DPS and DPD due to police activity in the neighborhood near the Safeway on 6th Avenue.

We immediately got all students off the playground and inside our building. A secure perimeter means the exterior doors of our school remain locked and bring students and staff inside the building. Business inside the building continues as normal, but we all must stay inside the building. The secured perimeter remains in place until the area outside of the building is determined safe by Denver Public Schools Department of Safety and Denver Police.

The secure perimeter was lifted around 11:05am.

At no time was there ever a threat to the safety and well-being of the students and staff here at school. We would like to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our number one priority. I know an announcement and procedure of this type can be upsetting for students. Our mental health supports are available to process with any community members needing additional support.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

 In partnership,

 Abe Janson
