Dora Moore Community Feedback Needed - Additional Planning Days for 24/25

As we begin to already plan for the next school year, we are seeking community feedback regarding adding additional 'non-student contact days' for teacher planning/assessment/conference days to the school year calendar.

The current consideration is to add between 1 and 4 additional days for the entire year.

There is a tension between teachers needing extra time to keep up with the demands the district and state continue to place on them, planning for and delivering high-quality instruction every day, and we know that each additional day has the potential to create challenges for families to alter their personal schedules to figure out care for their children.

We have created this survey to gauge community feedback as we look to make this decision before March 1st.

Take the 2-minute survey here: https://forms.gle/E94rdv8GvoxcAwud9

For additional context, many DPS and schools all over the nation already implement additional non-student contact days, shortened weeks, and/or regular early release days to allow for additional planning time for teachers to keep up with the demands of the job.

No Summer Camp Offerings at Dora Moore for 2024, Summer Camps to Return in 2025 ☹

Sadly, we cannot host a Discovery Link or YMCA Summer camp this year at Dora Moore. Our playground will be undergoing a $500,000 construction project and upgrade making a camp impossible. This playground improvement was originally scheduled for 2023, but nevertheless, will take place this summer!

All families that have previously registered for Dora Moore, have been notified and provided alternatives.

A list of other locations can be found here (Bromwell will be the closest option to our campus).

We hope to offer Summer Camp at Dora Moore in 2025!

February 28th @ 3:00pm--National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) x DM Collaboration for Black History Month

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL’s) Black Employee Resource Group (ERG) invites middle school students and their parents to attend a special Black History Month event at Dora Moore ECE-8!

Students and families will watch clips from The Space Race, a soon-to-be-released film from National Geographic about the first Black pilots, engineers, and scientists that became NASA astronauts. Stephen Leach from National Geographic will introduce the film and talk about creativity and diverse storytelling at Disney. NREL researchers from the Black ERG will also share their education stories.

Students will learn about the researchers’ scientific passions, their journeys to NREL, and how they are leading the clean energy future here in Colorado.

All students and families are welcome and encouraged to participate and ask questions!

If you have a middle school student, we'd love for you to join us for this event!
