Abe Janson, Principal [abram_janson@dpsk12.net]

Step 1: Complete Registration

All families must complete fall registration via Parent Portal prior to the first day of school. Failure to do so could result in your child(ren) missing the first day of school. If this is your first time using Parent Portal and you need support navigating this online platform, check out the Family Navigation Guide

All parents/guardians will need their child(ren)’s student ID number. If you do not know this number and you are a returning family, please ask your student. They most likely know it! If you are new to DPS and/or you need help in getting your child(ren)’s ID number, you can call or email Patty Celaya (patricia_celaya@dpsk12.net) at 720-424-5300.

Additionally, we are also offering in-person registration for any family that would like to come into the school to register their children. Our in-person registration dates are:

  • Tuesday, August 8th: 9:00am - 3:00pm

  • Wednesday, August 9th: 1:00pm - 6:00pm

Fall registration closes Friday, August 11th.

Step 2: Complete the You Benefit! Form

All students in DPS will have access to free healthy, nutritious school meals beginning in the 2023-24 school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program approved by Colorado voters! While meals will be provided for free to all DPS students through Healthy School Meals for All, families will still need to complete a form to ensure DPS [& Dora Moore!] gets full access to available federal funding.

What this means for families:
  • Please continue to fill out the You Benefit! form (formerly referred to as the Meals Application). We ask all DPS families to please complete the You Benefit! form during registration for the 2023-24 school year. By completing the form, you will help us access all available funds to cover the cost of meals, and other nutritional programs for students.
  • Families who fill out the You Benefit! form may qualify to receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more!
  • All household income information provided through this form is strictly confidential and protected by law. Only one form is required for all children in the household. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required when completing the form.

Learn more about the Healthy School Meals for All program in a short video in English and Spanishthis flier (Spanish is on page 2), or by visiting the Healthy School Meals for All website.

If you have questions about completing the You Benefit! form, please contact the DPS Food & Nutrition Services department by calling 720-423-5600 or emailing the foodservices@dpsk12.org inbox.

Step 3: Purchase School Supplies

School supplies are items teachers and students need for the upcoming school year but are not covered by Dora Moore’s general budget. Continuing what we started last year, in an attempt to be more thoughtful with our resources and also save families money, we have changed the school supply process.

Instead of families purchasing school supplies on their own (@ Target/Walmart/Office Depot/etc.) which often totals $70-$100 per student, we are collecting a school supply fee of $30 per student. The classroom teachers will use these funds to ensure each child has the supplies needed at the start of school and throughout the year. The only things a family will need to supply themselves are a backpack and water bottle for each student.

We call this a win, win!

School Supply Fees can be paid on MySchoolBucks! Please click on this link to pay your school supply link. Be sure to indicate your child’s name in the “Name” field so that we can track this information easily at the school.

For families that can and would like to purchase an extra school supply fee to help cover the cost for any student who may need resource assistance, you can do so at the link above by simply increasing the quantity. We thank you for your support and generosity!

Bell Time Reminders & Small Changes to Our Daily Operations

As communicated last year, our bell times will experience a very slight adjustment. DPS has moved our bell time back by 10 minutes from last year. That means…

  • 2023-2024 Start of School Bell: 9:00am

  • 2023-2024 End of School Bell: 4:00pm

In accordance with that small change, we have had to make some other trickle-down changes to reflect this 10-minute shift.

  • Breakfast/Arrival

    • Students are not allowed to be dropped off for breakfast until 8:30am unless they are registered in our Discover Link program [see info about enrolling in Discovery Link below]. At 8:30am, K-8th grade students are allowed to enter the cafeteria through Door #13 for breakfast.

      • A significant change this year is that we will not be serving breakfast in classrooms and after 8:55am for Kinder - 8th grade. If you would like your child to eat breakfast at school, they must be in the cafeteria before 8:55am.

      • Due to licensing restrictions, ECE students are not allowed to be in the cafeteria before school. However, we will serve all ECE students breakfast in the classroom starting at 9:00am. If you need ECE care prior to 9:00am, we have a solution! We are one of a few sites who have ECE care available through Discovery Link! See info below to register!

    • There is no staff supervision outside on the playground for K-8th grade students until 8:45am, therefore, students are not allowed to be dropped off on the playground unsupervised before 8:45am. ECE students must be signed-in by a guardian with the classroom teacher at 9:00am and are not eligible to be dropped off early unless they are in Discovery Link.

    • Teachers will meet students promptly at the 9:00am bell on the playground and walk directly inside to start the day.

  • After School Pick-up/Dismissal

    • We expect all families to have arrangements made to pick up their children promptly at 4:00pm. Out of respect for our staff who have their own children to pick up on-time and personal responsibilities to attend to, it is imperative that all students are picked up on time. If you cannot pick-up your child at 4:00pm, they will need to be registered in the Discovery Link program.

    • Students registered in Discovery Link will be escorted and dropped off directly with the DL staff in the cafeteria.

Discovery Link Before and After School Care - Welcome Jataun and We Still Have A Few Spots!

Hello, my name is Jataun (Jay) Pye. I'm so excited to join the Dora Moore Team for the 2023-2024 School Year!

I am the new program supervisor for Discovery Link, our before/after school program which is anticipated to start the first day of school! Please read this short letter about our new program and staff.

Having moved from the hectic city of Chicago to Denver, Colorado for semi-retirement, I am really enjoying this next chapter in my life.

After teaching for more than two decades and then directing a 21st Century program, I look forward to leading an OST program.

Building deeper connections with our community of families, bridging resources, and bringing engaging before and after school curriculum along with social emotional learning is so meaningful to our students.  And it's exactly what I love to do through project-based learning, movement, and enrichment.

Please make sure to stop in to say hello.  My wonderful Discovery Link Team and myself are located in the auxiliary office downstairs within the cafeteria area.

You can check out our parent board outside our office for upcoming news and cool program events, photos, etc starting September.

Sincerely,

Jataun Pye

Class List Updates

We strive to ensure that all classrooms are diverse, equitable learning environments. Our primary consideration in developing class lists is equity. Additionally, our enrollment changes daily with Round 2 School Choice remaining open until the start of school. We will be publishing class lists on Friday, August 11th at 4:00 p.m. Class lists will be found taped to the front door of the school and will also be accessible via Parent Portal. For student privacy reasons we ask that class lists are not posted on any social media site.

Mark Your Calendars! 2023-2024 DPS Yearlong Calendar + ONE Additional Dora Moore Specific Day Off

We wanted to give you ample notice and long runway for an additional day off that is specific to just Dora Moore.

Monday, November 27th, will be a no school day for all Dora Moore students.

Each school is given the discretion to implement one additional planning and assessment day and we have chosen November 27th. This has been approved by the district for our school.

Here is the general 2023-2024 DPS Calendar!

Summer Construction!

We have a revamped office and a new gym floor! Yahoo! We are so excited about these improvements. As we shared in the spring, we will also still be receiving playground updates but those have been delayed due to a myriad of factors outside of our control and will not be complete before the first day of school. BUT, they are still coming at some point!
