Dora Moore ECE-8 School

School is Out & Summer Follow-up!

07/18/22, 4:48 PM

Hi Dora Moore Families!

I hope everyone is enjoying the first few weeks of summer break. It has been an absolute honor to lead this amazing community since January. I have learned a ton and I am incredibly excited for all that we have in store for August!

The purpose of this letter is to keep families up-to-date on summer happenings and key information/dates for the beginning of school year. It's long, but informative!

I will send a detailed letter to all families in mid-July to share some of our 2022-23 strategic plans, but for now, I will offer a simple, yet heartfelt, “thank you” to each and every one of you.

Sincerely,

Abe Janson, Principal

Stay Connected!

Our communication is streamlined, and we are committed to sharing important information with our community as often as possible--even in the summer. The best way to stay in touch this summer, or any time of the year is through our school’s app ReachWell and our website

Class Lists for 2022-2023

We strive to ensure that all classrooms are diverse, equitable learning environments. Our primary consideration in developing class lists is equity. Additionally, the second round of School Choice is open now through August, which means our enrollment numbers continue to shift throughout the summer, therefore, class lists will not be available until August.

School Supplies for 2022-2023

School supplies are items teachers and students need for the upcoming school year but are not covered by Dora Moore’s budget. These are often incredibly expensive for families. We are committed to ensuring that school supplies are done differently this year, especially from an affordability standpoint. Instead of purchasing individual school supplies that often total $80 or more per child, we are requiring that each family pay $30 per student. This fee can be paid at registration in July and August.

Please do not purchase individual supplies for your student as we will communally source supplies for everyone.

Important Updates to School Lunches Next Year!

Due to the expiration of Federal Waivers that Nutrition Services has been operating under since the beginning of the pandemic, school lunches will no longer be free for all students in the 2022-23 school year. All students will need to be recorded by student ID numbers when they take their breakfast and lunch. Breakfast will remain no charge for all students. Lunch prices for 2022-23 will be as follows:

Elementary lunches: $2.60

Middle School lunches: $2.75

High School lunches: $3

  1. Meal Benefits applications are very important so that students can qualify to receive subsidized meals. This application will be available at registration.
  2. Students will not be allowed to 'charge' meals if their balance is low. This is a significant change for all students from the last two years.

Reminder: New School Bell-Times for 2022-2023

As a reminder, our school bell-times have changed for next year!

School will start at 8:50am and end at 3:50pm! Kinder - 8th grade students can be dropped off at 8:15am to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Due to licensing and childcare laws, ECE students are not eligible to be dropped off early for breakfast (See below for ECE care option!)

As of right now, we will be partnering with Leading Edge for before and after-school care options for families. We are still working out some of the details, however, here are the basics:

Hours of Care Through Leading Edge

  • Before School: 7:00am – 8:50am
  • After School: 3:55pm – 6:00pm

Leading Edge offers per day, part-time and 5-day (full-time) options for ECE-4 - 8th grade.

Registration is now open. Click on this link to register your child/children. Please note that registration must be completed for each child.

Reminder: Opt-In for 2022-23 Bus Transportation NOW OPEN

The Transportation Opt-In Program is live now through June 30. If your student is eligible and requires DPS Transportation services for the 2022-23 school year, opt in via Parent Portalclick here for instructions. If families do not opt-in by the June 30 deadline, their student may experience a delay in service. See information above for Parent Portal help!

Students are eligible for bus transportation if Dora Moore is their neighborhood school and they live greater than 1 mile from the school.  Families that live outside the designated Dora Moore boundaries are generally not eligible for bus services to Dora Moore.  Historically, Bus routes are made available just prior to the start of school in August.  Questions? Email transportation@dpsk12.org.

Staffing Updates and Changes

We will be having a lot of new staff join us next school. Some current teachers have decided to move to new roles/grades within Dora Moore while others have sought positions in other school districts, some have retired, and some have decided to pursue other opportunities outside of public education. Additionally, we were unable to fund some positions due to tight budget constraints for the 2022-2023 school year.

With that being said, we have worked incredibly hard to hire a wonderful group of teachers and staff! With those that are staying with us and those that are new, we are so excited for the team that we have built! Here is a short list of the teachers for each grade-level.

Please take a moment to read this introduction letter from Mrs. Watson!
