Before and After-school Care Changes for Next Year - IMPORTANT

We are excited to announce that we will now offer before and after-school care through Leading Edge Before & After School Care for the 2022-2023 school year! Dora Moore will no longer partner with the YMCA. We are constantly in pursuit of what is best for our families and students and making decisions that align to our core values of Community, Kindness, Curiosity, and Excellence.

There are a few different reasons for the change:

  • Leading Edge will offer care to our ECE-4 students; the YMCA was unable and unwilling to license themselves to provide this comprehensive option for our families.
  • Leading Edge has committed to doubling the number of spots for families that we are able to currently offer.
  • Leading Edge has a comparable pricing structure and also partners with CCAP to assist families.

Dora Moore Belltimes for 2022-2023

  • School Starts: 8:50am
    • Dora Moore is committed to offering drop-in, free care starting at 8:15am or 8:20am for all families. This would consist of students eating breakfast, socializing, and working on independent schoolwork.
  • School Ends: 3:50pm

Hours of Care Through Leading Edge

  • Before School: 7:00am – 8:50am
  • After School: 3:55pm – 6:00pm
  • Full Day: 8:00am – 4:00pm

Leading Edge offers per day, part-time and 5-day (full-time) options.

MyTech Chromebooks In Student Hands

Over the past two weeks, the DPS MyTech team has been distributing and assigning Chromebooks to each 2nd - 8th grade student at Dora Moore. Students have had Chromebooks individually assigned to their DPS accounts, and will be permitted and encouraged to take these devices to and from school and home. The important component of this program is that these devices are brought to school every day, fully charged in order to be utilized during our core instruction. Along with their Chromebook, they have also been assigned an individual charger.

For more information, consult this MyTech DPS one-pager, which includes the why behind this initiative, additional resources for supporting technology use in the home, and pricing for replacements and repairs.

All students, including Kindergarten and First Graders will be provided a Chromebook to take home over the summer to engage with academic learning opportunities.

Traffic Updates Around Campus

We have been working directly with the City of Denver, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, DPD, and Councilman Hinds office to address the traffic and safety issues around our campus. I am encouraged by all the things that are coming and the movement our advocacy has created in ensuring the city works to ensure our streets and campus are safe for students, families, and staff.

Here is a short and consolidated list of short-term projects and goals in progress:

  1. DOTI will enhance signage for drivers at 8th and Corona that right turns on red are not permissible by adding signage.
  2. DOTI will evaluate the traffic signal timing to determine if Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPI) at 9th and Corona, and 9th and Downing are appropriate.  LPIs help facilitate safer pedestrian crossings by giving pedestrians a few seconds to begin crossing before drivers in vehicles get a green light from a traffic signal.
  3. DOTI will perform speed and traffic volume counts on both Corona and Downing Streets.
    1. These counts will help us by identifying vehicle speeds and vehicle volumes on both roadways.
  4. DOTI is verifying signs are all in the correct places and will correct and missing signs that clarify where the school zone is.
    1. One school zone sign is missing on 9th Ave at/around Ogden St.  DOTI will replace.
  5. DOTI will work with the Curbside Management and Parking team to determine if they can adjust/lengthen the loading zone on Corona Street between 9th and 10th.
    1. All of Corona to be a passenger loading zone from 7 AM to 5 PM, ideally

Additionally, the Neighborhood Transportation Management Program (NTMP) has opened their online mapping survey tool to gather input and feedback on safety requests in the neighborhood around Dora Moore.

The Study Website is here:
